This time with a possible fix a few of you may want to check into.

Heres the story. The bastard hatch was getting about 240 miles to a tank I'd be at about 110 on half a tank. Of course this car is about as GHETTO rigged as it gets(not my doing fixing it a lil at a time) Anyways the timing was way off, at TDC on the flywheel I was pointing at almost 4 o clock with the cam gear up mark. Fixed that still the same mileage. New NGK iridium plugs and NGK wires still the same. Put my AEM CAI on, still same. DC header and still same. Anyways I went to get gas 2 weekends ago just down the street then went straight home. I always top the tank all the way to the top of the filler neck, just something I do. Anyways the car parked at an angle in the driveway and the next morning my some comes in to tell me its leaking gas, big puddle comming from the gas door. Changed out my gas cap and noticed the seal was formed kinda funny. Anyways so far on 3/4 of a tank I've gotten almost 300 miles so whether my mileage was so shitty because of evaporation or because the fuel system wasn't sealed like it should is beyond me, either way its doing alot better. Hope this helps somone

Yea I just noticed that yesterday my gas cap no longer made a woosh when I removed it so last night I got a new gasket and heard the woosh I hope MPG improves. The woosh stopped when my mpgs went eway down

yeah the hatch never whooshed, the sedan still does, but since it still has the OEM cap i think I'll replace it next week. I picked up the new cap at Walmart incase anyones wanting one Its a stant and the PN was 10810. According to stants site they say you can loose on avg of 30 gallons a year to evaporation

650 MILES to a tank ?????????????????

yeah..... AND??? If you look around on this board, you will find some who have around that same gas mileage. it IS possible. There was once a thread where everyone posted their gas mileages, and 35-40 seemed to be about average. 40mpg * 15 gallons = 600miles/tank.
i guess it all depends on how well you tune your engine/carb/fi/whatever. for me, all it took was a K&N filter, cat-back, hi-flo cat, NGK plugs (the cheap ones), and Accel wires.
now i have a cai, Accel coil, and a low-temp thermostat, so that should help even more.
tuning is essential though. check it out

I have never gotten mileage even close to that since the car was new. Best I have ever gotten is 33 mpg. That was on the highway during a trip from Ohio to Florida. It might be possible if you accelerate to 60mph in 5 minutes and put it in neutral down hills while driving on the interstate but I have never gotten that kind of milage on any honda I've owned.

650 MILES to a tank ?????????????????
Yea I bet he does 90% highway driving.
Last time i was on the road I went 433 miles and topped of the tank with 10.1 gallons. Thats 43mpg. That MPG thread vinny was talking about, i figured out from that on average carbed cars get better mileage as well.

Wow. I'm surprised. Do carbed engines have less power?

Not when you tune them correctly.

Does anyone know what the HP is for the A20A3 in the 89 SEi? I was told when I bought this car new that it had a little more power than the non SEi engine. around 125 HP

Nope same engine same HP, only cosmetic differences between LX-i and SE-i other than the 4 wheels discs

from the factory the carbs gett better gas MPG and the A20A3 has 122 hp

.....so how do you get 15 gallons in a 12 gallon tank ????

Blkblurr

The most i've gotten in my 89 SEi is 13.5 gals

ooops !!!...I stand corrected, fuel tank capacity 15.9 US gallons...13.2 Imp...60 litres.

I know that the EFI cars use a little more fuel, but that's the price you pay for more HP.....But i'm happy with an average 31 mpg, mostly city driving.

Hey you newbs and not so newbs think you could either
A) Stick to the focus of this thread
B) Start another thread for you fuel tank capacity debate and go whore that one up
C) Use the search button before you post and save us all some time

I love the way we get emails saying someone responded to a thread only to find out its off the topic banter. You ever think people get tired of sorting through de-railed threads to find the information they are looking for? Go babble in OT

Correct. I was seeing a girl at that time who lived near 25 miles away, and like the pussy-whiped fool I was, I drove there and back to see her almost every single day. And then we'd have to cruise allllllllll the way back into town or somewhere....
Yeah, I was definately doing 90% highway.

Those mods saved my wallet. I would have spent twice as much on gas if not for them.

Yeah Chicane had a stalling problem and it was his cap wasn't venting correctly. Search its there.

As far as millage kinda have to list your tire size along with that since that could make your speedo off quite a bit.

yea for the longest time for my 3g(lindsay), she only got about 11 gallons into it. now that all the way until the light came on. then one day i went to a different gas station and got close to 14 gallons. some times i averege 33 mpg and one time, i got like 25 mpg. that was mostly highway too, though i was speeding alot.
