ok, well i am obsessed with headlights. dont get funny, im talking about my car. anyway, i, as many of you have gone with H4 conversions which help out a whole lot. ive got the driving lights going on that shine nice and far. ive got nice halogen bulbs in there that shine bright, but i want to go a step further. i get to see my neighbor's cars with HID headlights that shine like daytime. ive seen the Phillips the Catz systems. ive seem most of the other japanese and german makers. the real HID systems are expensive and now are not street legal. the ones with the bulb that uses not filament is the one. ive been told the "poor man" HID that uses halogen or xenon filament bulbs are still legal. Catz makes it zeta system, or maybe thats the one discontinued, but they still make one like it. anyone thought about those systems? ive seen other brands like key lux that are alright. ive seen pretty good deals under $200 for them, dont know what they will turn out to be, but i may order one to see what thats all about. i'll post pix if i do get it. anyone got the "poor mans" HID system? pix?

I have thought about them for both of my cars. Now just my TL. But honestly they are overpriced. I had a buddy who just got them for his 02 civic, yes there tight, but too much money. I got some Catz H4's in the TL that look hella tight, just my 02.

I have them in highs and lows on my bird. Overpriced and cool but its really a show thing for me. Ive got a conversion that when the highs are on the lows stay on also. Its hella bright. If you ask me you get what you pay for so dont expect much going cheap.

Rob588o used to talk about adapting audi HID factory sets for our cars. maybe think about picking up a set of german make from a yard for cheap. You know the quality is good then. Id like to see pics when its done either way.

Im with Mike on this one
HID kits run about $500 when you can get a nice H4 setup for under $100.
I don't think its worth 5 times as much. HIDs are nice though. I would rather spend the money on something else.

If you get HID.. try to get an 8000K or higher .. Lower, you wast your money.

I kick myself in the ass everyday now that i found out a while ago that one of my Audi ballasts was bad. I checked ebay and they go for a few hunderd for the set and are the same for the BMW's. I wish i took more sets when i worked there because a few passed through us because Audi has a problem with the A6 headlamps and part of the insides support snaps and cant be fixed cause its a sealed unit. But for others i would recommend using the Hella Audi/BMW ballasts as seen on ebay and if you could get two junk A6 headlamps and use their projector part that is what im going to do if i get my hands on another ballast from a friend.

That's incorrect. The higher kelvin you go the more you waste your money. Its all color for anything past 6000k.

well, those that y'all show here are now made illegal for street use which i dont understand. although i can understand why somewhat. they arent self leveling and will blind other cars on the road in some conditions when the roads levelness changes. if you find a nice halogen system with the filament type bulbs, post it up here. my mom just gave me some money so i can get it.

Dosn't put out more light though. It just changes color. I have the stock HID's in my S2000 and they are about 4500K. They are 2.5 times brighter than a standard Halogen headlight.

All stock applications use 4100k or 4300k which put out the most light including the S2000. As you go higher they coat the bulbs with a film which decreases the light output. 5500k is true daylight. Stock halogen bulbs produce light around 3000k. 8000k like you say is bluish/purplish which is all show really. Go buy 8000k hids and see how well they light up the road.

Im using a setup from a Audi A6 along with its projectors because they have the block off plate to block high rays from blinding others. I would like to upgrade to a Bi-xenon projector but at the moment i only have one A8L bi-xenon projector and they are very hard to come by so im going to work on my low beam HID setup for now and see how things go.

Cousin has a kit that uses 6000k HID. Going down 280 in the dark, it does really make it the view rather soothing to the eye and brighter blue but not really bright white like stock HIDs. It does light up road reflective material quite well such as Signs, and lane markers.
