Looks good, but no gearboxes are listed on there. I'm going to email them and see what's up. Thanks for the link!

If they don't have the trannies, it's about as good as a dead project....unless you go with an auto.

holy crap, under 500? i thought they were hells more expensive than that. i guess more money comes from the install though.

It's a 15yr old engine, or older, I think maybe 18. It won't be that much. Bitch is finding one in good shape, and not worn out, like all our 200,000mi A20's.

I'd be willing to wadger that those prices are in au$ too. Thats pretty damn cheap, though the shipping wont be.

A shop here in Montreal has one for sale for 900 CDN (roughly 550-600 US)

This includes the tranny.

The only problem is that it's an 86-87 model, won't work for me

B20A 1958cc twin cam EFI ACCORD 86-89 from $495

hey carrot can u post the shop name or number or even email address?
for the right price i might take a drive up there!
and why won't those 86-87 work for u?

MoonScryer

They have a different vacuum setup. It'd work for me, if it was an automatic...

Please post contact information for that Montreal shop if you're definitely not going to get it. By the way, $495 AUD converts to about $280 USD, according to Yahoo Finance.

I got an email back from the guys in Australia that have them, they quoted shipping at $1500 AUD, which converts to about $850 USD. He said it might be cheaper to shop around and get someone here to import it for me.

He didn't say anything about the trannies, so I asked about that and also if it comes with the stock ECU for that motor. I'll keep everybody posted about replies.

The $280 for the motor, plus maybe $100 for a tranny if they have them, plus $850 for shipping comes to about $1230, a damn good deal if you ask me. Especially since B16A's available here pale in comparison performance-wise and cost the same BEFORE shipping and special parts.

hey toasty i see u are in VA prob deep south VA
anyway if u get this engine who is gonna do the swap for u?

i emailed them to but no replys! I told the guy at the dealership to hold on! I was gonna buy an 92 teg but if I find this engine and all the parts i might just keep my car!
but im still waiting for a call or something

Deep south? Hmm... I used to play ball at the YMCA in LA...

Um yeah anyway Harrisonburg is in the Shenandoah Valley, about an hour and a half or so south of DC. Why do you ask? Are you offering your services? hehe

I'm not sure about who's going to do the swap.. if I can find a daily driver while the car is out of commission I might do it myself with some help from friends that know more than me. The main obstacle is finding a place to do it.

Right now I'm just worried about getting the engine over here from Australia without breaking the bank.

see we need some type of 3 g connection Down Under
because I know it would be cheaper for an independent or private party to ship the engine here!
and No i was asking about who was gonna do your work
because i might need some help also!
but again they must like u because i havent had a email yet!

I can get you a 86-87 B20A for 400 US, the tranny would be roughly 300, (that's an automatic)

So far I found only 1 manual tranny and I'm keeping it for me..

$700 < $1200 :)
Let me know if you find another manual tranny. Any idea much shipping would be?

I did manage to find one 88-89 but I'm keeping it. The guy might be able to get more, no guarantees tough.

im working on getting more b20a motors i can get a b20a 88-89 motor with the 5spd tranny usually the guys charge roughly that i deal with to ship around 250 matters where you are but thats the going rate as for the motors they come with the tranny, the intermeidate shaft and some of the still have the vacume boxes on them

MoonScryer

Carot: Can you determine how much for shipping for the motor/tranny, also any possible check for mileage on it, and a compression test? The money looks to be available, and my A20 is starting to smoke a bit; this is a better option than what I was considering.

carotman
07-09-2002, 09:29 AM
The milleage for the engines is around 40k miles (but no paper to certify it)

They aren't in that great shape as I remember but I'll dig some more info on that.

What's the difference between the 86/87 and 88/89? Just the vacuum stuff right? How difficult would it be to hook up that stuff from an 88/89 motor in an 86 vehicle? With $250-350 for shipping that is coming close to the cost of the Australian one but still beats it by about 200 bucks. If the AUD's value goes down by very much it might still be better to get the one in Australia but I don't know how much that fluctuates. I'll keep an eye on it and let you guys know. Carot/B20Aturbo: can you put up contact information for the people you're dealing with on this? Also B20Aturbo how much to ship to 22802 zip?

It's more than just the vacuum lines that are different between the 86/87 and the 88/89. The main thing is the idle control. The 86/87 use an idle control solenoid valve while the 88/89 use the EACV. The 88/89 manifolds do not have the fitting to attach the vacuum hoses from the 86/87 idle control solenoid valve. Both valves are controlled by the ECU so the appropriate ECU must be used. Also, the 88-89 manifold has the dual stage intake. Believe me it's not worth trying to use 88/89 stuff it the 86/87.

Ummm, does the B20A work with Carb or only FI? If it works with Carbs I would be pretty much willing to drive up and take that B20A off your hands Carotman. I live in mid-Minnesota, about how far is that from you?

It would be one hell of a long road trip... I went to school up in Crookston MN for a year and it was a 24 hour drive. So if you take a week off from work or whatever, you could certainly go...

I'm going to head up to NY this weekend to see if I can find out who can import an JDM B20a with all the essentials. I heard there is spot somewhere where they have motors imported from other countries. Hopefully I can get some info and maybe pass it on to the board.

on these motors...if they arent in that great of shape and could seriously use a rebuild how hard would sourcing parts be?

and arent all bseries trannies interchangeable?

RobT5580
08-07-2002, 08:30 PM
Most of them are but the B20 to my knowledge can only use the original B20A tranny. The regular B-series like the B16A you can swap around the tranny fine.

Oh yeah btw you can do B18C5 swap with regular B-series mounts/harness. That thing seems kind of overpriced to me (the B20A has more torque!?), but I guess you're paying a lot for aftermarket support and room to expand.
