it would fit in but you have to use ur 87 intake and exhaust manifolds. You can only use the block off a 88-89, nothing else. if not u have to either hack ur 87 wiring and emissions or just convert everything to the 88-89 type.

I got a JDM A20A3 from NipponMotors and it was in excellent shape and i was very happy with it. Unless you know the mileage of the motor i would consider buying a JDM one like i did. But not all JDM Importers have good stuff so watch out who you buy from. And unless you blew yours i would maybe consider rebuilding what you have unless you want to just drop a new one in. But my JDM one is still going strong although i did change all the seals when it was out just to be sure of no leaks.

so i can only use the 88 block and not the head? or can i use the whole engine and use the intake and exuast for it ? if not how hard is it to convert over to the 88 and 89 so i can drop right in?

i looked at some of the places above and they have engines seperated by manual tran and auto trans, im probaly wrong as always but even if a motoer from a manual wont it still bolt up to and auto trans.

the auto and 5spd bellhousing bolts are the same. And pretty logic for one motor series, 5spd and auto trannies bolt up with no prob.

I dont know why they label the engines from being used in an auto and 5spd trannies, but the only thing i can think of is that the auto tranny based motors are less abused?

all the heads are the same. the intaek manifodl is the only thing that is differant.. the exhaust manifold is flowed better and that can be used also. jsut geth the engine harness and ecu and do a complete 88-89 swap. they are rated to have 10 more horsepower and have soem higher compression.

he is talking about the efi engines. the difference bwt a 86-87 efi vs a 88-89 efi alone.

No BT is actually an A series engine, almost the same as A20A3, only using less compresion and a single stage intake manifold (which is recommended for using Seans turbo, I think) In any case Ive ditched it for my B18C1. If you are interested, you will need a new clutch, head gasket, shift linkages, and wiring harness.

its the 8.8:1 ratio compression on that block. Which is from 86-87 efis. its either that block or a A20A1 motor should be good. besides 9.3 is not a high CR anyway.
