Ok guys here is the question. How much horsepower can we get with our A20 engine with a weber carb, a good header, 2.25" to 3.00" exhaust pipe with a good muffler, hallow out the cat, and tune the hell out of it ? I am wondering if I can get around 200hp w/o adding turbo or N2O. The engine I got now is stock but I do want to mod it a bit and get around 150 horsepower but the one I want to build I want to get around 200 horsepower w/o turbo or N2O. Is it possible ? Thanks.

if you go with A18 head ported and polished, dual Weber sidedraft, nice cam, i would say you should be able to push close to 150hp.

i don't think you'll get to close to 200hp at the wheels w/ just mods unless you want to spend more then a turbo kit would cost to begin w/. however if you'd like to, sean is putting together turbo kits for peeps and these A20's are very strong.

Thanks Alex I'll try and go for that. I do want to put tegether another engine next year but that'll be for the project central portion.

One reason I am trying to stay away from turbo kits is because of the cost, however who knows what'll happen when I do my engine project next year so i'll keep that in mind, thanks.

you could push the compression up a little to squeeze more power out, if you want to rip open the block... I would imagine you'd have to stick with the 2.25" exhaust since 3" would leave no back pressure in there and that would be determintal to horsies

Hey Bro im currently working on an all motor 200 horses is easy if u got the cash. A rebuilt bottom end wit high compression pistons, stronger rods, new gaskets and bearings etc.And neccessarly u dont have to go wit dual 45 dcoes i find them to be to expensive to tune or really to much off a pain in the ass. THe 32\36 is a pain in the ass to tune let alone 2 carbs. I recommend the 38 38 weber big and does the job. cheaper then the dcoe setup.
A weber 38/38 is a great carb but you will never get enough air flow to push even close to 200hp, dcoe's are a bit of a pain in the a$$ but worth it

Thanks for that info. I was looking at a Weber 32/36 but I will look at a 38/38. I definately plan on building the bottom end with high quality shit to handle the abuse. What about exhaust ? Does hollowing out the Cat do anything or are there some mufflers that you can hook directly up to the manifold and still be emmisions compliant here in washington ? Here's a PS to this. It's a stupid question but I am going to ask it anyway. What is dcoe's and what's the difference between a 38 38 and a 32 36.

Keep the A20 head if your running the 38.
upgrade the fuel system too.
Hollowing out the cat will cause you to fail emissions.
DCOE's are side draft carbs... basicly the barrels of the carb sit near horizontally.
The 32/36 and the 38 are both down draft carbs... so the barrels sit vertically.
The 32/36 is a progressive carb which means the first and second throttle plates open one after the other.
The 38 is a synchronous carb so that means both throttle plates open at the same time.
the DCOE is also synchronous btw. But the DCOE is usually set up so that 1 barrel of the carb feeds only one cylinder. There are some manifolds where one barrel of the carb feeds 2 cylinders... thats the difference between a Dual DCOE setup and a Single DCOE setup.

The only a18 head that will bolt up to the a20 is the 86-87 et2 a18 head

The a18 is the 2nd gen prelude engine, SOHC

Where can I find parts for a fuel injected BT? Cam, pistons, header. Also how stout is the stock bottom end?

bolts right on you can use your header but not your intake

B18? the B18 has a different tilt angle
The A18 manifold... I believe someone said they are not being made anymore

Thanks for the input guys. I am gonna start doing some research and I sure am glad this site exist to answer all our questions. If I can get 150 to 200 horses without turbo and N2O that'll be fine for me for now, but I do plan on setting the engine I build to be able to handle up to 400 horses like Sean has for sale. The reason I want to put it together instead of just buying one from Sean is because I want to be able to do it myself and learn more. Till then, lates.

A20 Bottom end is practically bullet proof.....

I think he ment a18 ? the manifold I have is for a dual weber setup if your intrested email this guy his name is Tristan Graye

I never heard of a downdraft carb manifold for the a18, but there might be one?
