Ummmm.....I don't live in Florida.......Here in Idaho I use it for snowboarding....

I like the rack! I have racks for both my cars. totally a must have if you live here in Idaho, and like to ski. I just don't like the marks they leave on the paint if you leave them on for a long time. Not to mention my racks have a tendancy to rub the paint off of the inside of the door where they rub against the rack. So I only put them on when I am using them. Actually, the last time I used them I hauled 30 sticks of 20' pipe home on them. If I remember right, it was about 650 lbs of steel. Never the less to say, I had to do a little tweaking to the bars to get the bow out of them. :rolleyes:

you are nuts for driving around in the snow with those wheels and tires. You'd get a lot better traction with some good meaty tires.

traction comes from the tread of the tire, not really the sidewall in snow. i would be more worried about sliding into a curb and cracking those wheels or just getting weathered. and i would guess that you don't have a mud and snow rated tire.

tread pattern is def a a factor...... but if you had 2 tires with th same tread pattern 185/65/15 vs 225/65/15, I prick 185/65/15 in the snow handsdown

I'm afraid you are wrong, because I wash my car at least once a week.........I have a better chance of rusting them out from the car wash, than from the snow. :cool2:

But Bitesize, you really need to take those low-pros off even if you do live in Florida, because you are still going somewhere where it might possibly snow (and in ur case it did). When going up to Idaho put on at least all weather tires. Just telling u before you get into an accident with a salt truck like I did when I tried driving in the snow with low pros.

hum he lives in Idaho. The lows pros and snow don't work together well, I tried that in 8" of snow I drove for about 10mins then put my snow tires on for some good controled snow drifting.

like Portugalfocus said, it's not about profile it's about width. skinny tires will dig into the snow, wide tires will float over it. by measure of the tires on most cars, 205 is a pretty skinny tire even though they look really wide on our cars. but tread does have a lot to do with it. i have Firestone Firehawks which are a pretty agressive tire. the old 185s i took off my car were some old worn down goodyears. In my case, the 205s are the better tire, and i can tell when i drive in snow, even though the 205s have less sidewall.

Yeah i hate the snow especially this year since my nice coupe is not put away. But i can say the best thing i did was buy snow tires. I got GoodYear utragrip Ice and they are incredible. I never owned a snow tire until this year but let me tell you these were well worth the money and are good in the snow and ice. So next year if you have the money i would highly recommend them i have them on both my accords right now and they are great. Last winter when my car was stored with the rims on it i tried to move it and it would not go anywhere on even flat ground with 1/2 inch of snow. Street tires are the worst for rain and snow.

As far as studs go, they are great on the front, but if you put them on the back it makes it hard to power slide arround corners in the snow. And most all the local tire shops will only put studs on all fours. They won't put them on just the front :werd: .

that's because they intend for the studs to be used for safe driving, not "power sliding" around corners. i can only power slide on my skateboard.

Firestone Firehawk tires are very good...... I like them.. .a decent set of tires for the price.....

I just got 205/50/15's for my Focus. Bridgestone Potenzas 750RE's..... Here comes spring!!

Snow is fun.. THe better the tire the better the fun.. I play in the snow all the time here in Alberta.. And a good pair of snowys do the trick.. E-brakin and rockfords are a blast.
