Hey, I'm almost positive that the carb is messed up on my car. My friend has an 88 LX, and he is gonna part it out, cause he is getting a new one. He said that I can take the carb off of it. How difficult is it to replace? And he has a 5-speed, and I have an auto, is there any difference in the carbs?

Any help would be great.

Thanks

tim

To my knowledge there were a few carbs used on the 3g's. I know when I was going to pop one on my car I got from someone, my mechanic said it would not work.

there were some diff from 86-87 to 88-89.
if you going to take 88 carb and drop it to 89 accord it will work just fine.
the only think you will run into is the throttle braket. you probably will have to replace it from the one on your carb. it is not that much problem, it is a little pain in the ass, but you can do it.

oh getto, tell your mechanic he doesn't know shit about the carbs on our cars. you can swap 88-89 carb into 86-87 car with no problem. i can't even remember how many times i have done it.
i even build hybrid, half from 86-87 and the other half from 88-89. if you take both carbs apart you won't find any diff. except the AC idle boost on 86-87 it had 1 vacuum line and on 88-89 had 2 lines.

Cool, thanks, I was looking in the Haynes manual and I read about the throttle thing in it for auto, thats why I got a little nervous that it wouldn't work. Does the bracket bolt on? Or is it a little more than that?

Thanks

Oh hey, you say you are the junkyard guy, you know if you can find any 92-95 Civics? All the yards around me suck.

Thanks again

Hey, Alex, that carb we slapped on my car is from an 87 right? It's on my 89 and works just dandy.

The EFE plate is a bit different, the gaskets are...
You'll need to get the gaskets for the correct EFE plate when you replace the carb... you don't need to replace the EFE plate though.

That's cool. It works fine, I just need to bump the idle up a bit. When I turn my headlights on, it drops a bit too low.

You don't have one of the idle boost solenoids hooked up? I think it is spposed to come on when the lights are on. I know the original vacuum line removal how to got rid of the solenoids... but it turns out they just need a manifold vacuum source so no need to get rid of em.

Yeah, none are hooked up. It's got no choke and manual secondary. I still have the hard lines that are on the driver side of the engine bay. They're just chillin right now. I was gonna take them out cause their not being used. The idle boost thingy on the back of the carb is gone so there's nothing to hook it up to.
