The one he has will work.

He needs to put a flexpipe on it though.

Good to see you have your new add on.
The one big problem with these is the EGR pipe.
Just make sure that you don't tighten down the header nuts until you get the EGR pipe ends treaded correctly. Keep the EGR pipe loosely connected at EGR side so you have some play room. When you get the header connection side started about half way then start to tighten down the EGR side too.
I learned the hard way on this cross threaded the Header EGR threads. Luckly I was able to retap the threads.
Good Luck.

i just plugged every hole for my carbed engine... just wait man... the finish will dull, the downpipe will get surface rust on it... when i pull my header on monday, im gonna wire wheel the downpipe and spray it with a few coats of high temp black...

what brand is it?

HondaBoy
02-21-2004, 10:00 PM
heres something i want to know. pacesetter is really the only brand i've found that makes a header specificly for the carburated engine. i had thought that the FI header could work with the holes plugged. my friend has pacesetter headers on his 300ZX, they're over 10 years old. yeah, the black paint has flaked off and its got surface rust, but they are still good. anyway, is the header that bitesize has there better than the pacesetter original black one? what exactly would it take to get the FI one to comply with the carb engine? im guessing just cap off the extra holes.

i have the EXACT same header

i got 2 o2 sensor PLUGS at the parts store... and i used the rolled up tubes to fill the holes for the air suction and the EGR pipe... i have a weber, so i just capped them off

whats sooo different with a carbed car compared to an FI?? NOTHING... 1 less 02 sensor.... and in canada, we have NO o2 sensors

This header has a air suction port for the carb models... which i will plug up.

HondaBoy

wait, so it was originally for the carbed engine? can i find one like that with the armor coat other places than ebay, i really havent looked. DC makes one, but not for carb, i think.

Yep the good old pacesetter. Don't plan on having that little bracket on the back of the engine line up the header. You have to make the holes musch wider and taller for them to line up. I just removed the bracket cause I was soo pissed it didn't line up.

yeah it was kind of a bitch it install, and if you don't want that fuckin ball joint makin hella annoying noise then either weld in a flexpipe or just spray rubber coating on the ends of the ball joint and it wont make ne noise, that's what I did

You aren't shitting me, the bracket didn't line up worth a damn....I just removed the bracket from the engine.

I like the sound this pacesetter gives...kind of a grunting noise. I did get a gain in power too around 4,000+ rpms.

Speaking of the glorious Pacesetter Header I have had my egr blocked off and then this morning it broke off and left a large hole on the underside of the second tube. I had to have it welded closed. I'm not exactly sure why it broke off maybe from vibration without being connected to a pipe for support?-just a guess. And about that short throw shifter-works great but to lower it all the way you have to cut a hole in the heat shield or remove it. WTF Darkside

Well since y'all are talking about header for our car I got a question. I have a carb'd car and the only after market header I could find were PaceSetter and DC Sports, but they are for the FI models. So, how will those bolt on ? I see from some of the post here that they don't line up properly. Help me out before I make an expensive mistake in a couple months. Also just a side question, can a steel fab shop custom make a header for you and if so what should it cost. Thanks.

Justin86

They are universal so they fit carb and EFI, so you might have to plug any extra holes. The only thing that makes it a pain to instal is the motor bracket dosen't line up, except for that its not that hard.

Did any of you gauys gett copper gaskets with your header. I blew out the one it came with and re-ordered the new ones I got today are copper. Just curious.

Yea it's the Pacesetter. The head to header gasket-you can use an oem one. The header to downpipe gasket-is the one I'm refering to -you can get them directly from Pacesetter. Here is their number 1-602-266-1964. The ones I got are copper-I'm stoked.Darkside

how much???

Travis

Darkside
02-26-2004, 07:47 PM
I think they were 12.95 each-I got 2. I thought they were like the First one it came with. I had a home-made-gasket and it blew out fast. Darkside
2 gaskets and shipping was 38.00

Yea I have tried other gaskets thats I had to cut and they didn't work at all. Then on my great search yesterday to find a good gasket I guy told me to use the ATV high temp silicone, it all he uses on his race car. So I'm giving it a try today to see how it works.

I plugged the Air suction Valve thing, I have noticed a big differance from 4,000 to red line... also it makes a grunting noise which I like.

All together it took about 3 hours total, because the nuts were rusted pretty bad by where the cat. converter goes, so that was fun. The whole unit fit perfectly except the mounting bracket by the oil pan.

Hey Bitesize, happy to hear you have the new toy in place, but remember you will have to check it every season (before and after winter) just so you don't let it go, to get all rusted.
Congrats again,
Phil
