I'm really wondering what are some good names in amps? I've found a few new ones since i've been searching around. Just make a list of some good, yet somewhat cheap amps and i'd be greatly appreciative. Thanks.

PHOENIX GOLD!!!!!!!!
The amps are fairly expesnsive but they are so good. The 600 watt one pumped like other 1000watt amps. Id get a Phoenix Gold if you want good strong bass.

It's called underrating. Phoenix Gold often underrates their amps, saying like 200X2 when it really puts out around 300 or more per channel.

Many many companies OVER rate their amps saying 1000X1 when its more like 750X1 or less.

Phoenix Gold is supposed to make some top quality amps, very clean signal, very cool running, and pretty powerful.

It's next to impossible to rate amps "Accurately" because the environments they are created in and are used in are totally different.

Pretty much any time you see a "rating" for an amp that is just the manufacturers educated guess at how well it will perform.

if your looking at a class D mono amp for subs, IMO the best is JBL. there great clean power, and a very well known company for dirt cheap. the BP600.1 can be had for under $200, and i think the BP1200.1 (1200 watts!) is not even $100 more.

i always thought legacy was a crappy ebay brand like pyramid or something. Are they really good?

If your looking for good amps for rather low cost i would go with Crossfire. I have had 3 of them with no problems and pretty good sound for the cost. Im gonna try Memphis this time dont know what to expect but from what i hear they are good. But if money wasnt an issue i like Phoenix Gold myself i have heard a nasty system running 2 of them and i would agree that they underate their amps and the quality seems good. But i couldnt beat the price on my Memphis so i will see how they are soon.

I would suggest lightning audio or MA audio.....I was going to get a lightning audio but went with rockford fosgate instead cuz I found a great deal. The lightning audio are a very reliable amp for the price, you won't be disappointed with it. Another thing I would like to suggest to you is go to carreview.com and put in some of these names. They have reviews of anything you could possibly imagine for a car, and it's reviews from people that have bought and used the products.

just a little thing i found out rockford fosgate makes lightning audio products, its sort of like a car lightning audio is the base brand and rockford is their "luxury brand" me myself i agree phoenix gold makes some bad ass amps along with U.S. AMPS those are the shit

For the money I would go with the Crossfire, Planet Audio, or Memphis.
Please don't go with any "pawnshop" amps such as Visonik, Legacy, Pyramid, and the list goes on.
As far as amplifier ratings, There are no industry standards on how companies can rate their amplifiers. Reputable comapanies ratings are accurate and have to be or they will not be allowed in competition. They are not really underrated they are just rated correctly. If an amp is rated correctly at 100 watts per channel that is the continuous power it does at 4ohm stereo. Now this same amplifer may be capable of doing 300 watts per channel continuous but it would probably do that power at 1 or 2 ohms. A good rule of thumb which will give you an APPROXIMATE idea of what an amplifer will truely do is take the ORIGINAL size fuse, multiply x 12 (for 12 volts) and divide by 2 (because most amplifiers are only 50% effecient) and that will give you an idea of what it will do. Digital amplifiers are an exception because they are usually between 80-90% effecient.
