Hey folks. I just got a sweet workbench/studio setup for testing my car audio setups. Problem is i need a power inverter so i can test my stuff indoors. Does anyone know of some DIY schematics/ Curcuit Diagrams? I have basic/general electronic skills and I've built an inverter before (although a simple and LOW powered one).

better yet if anyone knows where i could buy a premade inverter that will fit my needs please...please let me know!

Radio slut is good for crap like that.

Do you need DC to AC or do you need AC to DC?

AC to DC, I want to run my car audio setups off a wall plug, or house current rather than a battery

yah i've been poking around on radio-slut..heheh and I see a lot of DC-to-AC

well i didn't "Get" anything per say, I converted my old dark room to a testing room. and just recently added a better workbench and some sound deadining material. I do some guitar stuff so i also have my amp and 4-track in there. I put in the workbench thinking it would be a great room to tune my car audio stuff. I occasionaly do friend's systems. wiring, tuning, box building etc.... now i have the facilility to take it a bit more seriously.

jesus... as a computer guy, you should know that computer power supplies throw 12 volts out of the yellow wires... hook em all together and maybe run 2 and you should have enuff amps to run a pretty good sized amp

I don't know about that, power supplies have different rails that they supply current on, certian voltage rails are only made to handle certian amounts of current. It may be a 300watt supply but the 12v molex ur hooking it to may only be meant to supply 30 of those watts.

Thats exactly what I am thinking of. My friend uses one of those to test out his car wiring before he installs it. His can power a deck and a 300 watt amp no problem.

I used a PC power supply to test a deck before, I had to disable the internal amp first though.

I would imagine for testing Decks they can provide more then enough power, it's powering big sub amps or a couple amps at a time that worry's me.

I saw some of those at Costco for cheaper than that.

i use power supplys for decks and small amps ALL the time... i have 2 350 watt supplies that push like 8 amps each.. together they run 300 watt amps fine

i just hooked up my jensen deck with my 120x2 amp to my computer powersupply, i just tapped in to the black/yellow/red drive power lines, works great, same power supply that is in my new case,
when i was building my computer i came up with a awesome idea and waalaa
works great!!!!

have you turned it right up? what kinda speakers r u driving? do you have a multimeter you could hook up to measure ampures?

i just hooked it up, no testing really, if it blows my psu and motherboard so be it, parts are cheap nowadays, but i HIGHLY doubt it will
im running 2 100watt 6x9's to it, the stereo is not hooked up anymore because it did not have aux in, and thats why i hooked the amp up is to
have cheap computer speakers that sound good, and yes i have turned it up, about half way, works fine so far?
