Hey you all whats up? I bouth a 1996 civic about 2 months ago. And it currently has about 75K miles on it. I was wondering how do you know if the timing belt needs to be changed? I keep hearing people saying at 100K or 60K. i am not sure if the timing belt as been changed and if i get a machanice to inspect it would they be able to tell? I know that this isn't a civic form but you all have been help full when it came to fixing my 3 gen and i taught i would give it a shot.

When in doubt JUST DO IT. After you get it done you'll have peace of mind in knowing..

A timing belt should be done every 60k miles. In order to adequetly inspect a timing belt, it must be removed; if you remove your timing belt you may as well replace it. While you are at it, have the water pump replaced as well as the other drive belts on the engine. :D

The newer Honda's are due at 90K. Check your owners manual in the required maintenance section. It will tell you when the belt is due to be replaced. The new Honda's are due at 105K.
