Ok So I have decided to get the big brake kit for the front and rear. There is the One-Piece Big Rotor Brake Kit and the Two-Piece Big Rotor Brake Kit and the two-peice cost nearly twice as much. I'm trying to decide on which kit is the best. Also if anyone can help me find a good place to get them for cheap, I would appreciate. :)

Cheap and big brake kit don't go together.

well the one peice cost around $500 and the two peice cost around $950.
With the stock size stuff with pads it will cost me about $400, so what to get?
The two peice are slotted/cross drilled and look nicer with differnt colors.
The one peice are just slotted and only come in black.

Are you going to legitamately race the car?
If not I would go with the one piece.
For twice the money you are not going to notice that much of a differance.

Personally I don't like the big brake kits that use stock calipers. You still get the same surface area of the pad touching the rotor. I would just go with Brembo Rotors and good pads if I was not upgrading the calipers along with it.

This is just for street use but I still need the better stopping that my stockies provide. Upgrading to the four piston calipers would be real nice but considering the kit costs $2,000 for just the front, its a little spendy for me right now. I'm just going to go with the one-peice kit cause I can afford it right now and if I wanted the rotors drilled or dimpled I can do that at home.

i hope you know how to make the adapter plate to adapt the kit.

yea I read the how for the F&R, noting I can't do or take to a machine shop. I'm just trying to find a good, cheap place to buy them. Retail the fornts are $285, rears are $234.
http://www.wholehyper.com/aembrakes.htm this place I can get just the slotted/drilled rotors F&R for $380 but then I need the brackets.
http://www.modacar.com/products/Honda/Civic/MODABBK has the front one peice kits for $220 but not the rears.

Actually they do improve your stoppign power. Since the calipers get spaced out away from the center it gives them better leverage.( kinda like sliding a pole over a ratchet) I didnt think so bt after I instaleed them the differance is really noticable. Ask Rob he just took his of for the inter and said he didnt realize how much better they stopeed until he took them off.

Plus you have to admit they do look bada$$ behind some 17's

The front kit should run you around $450 for the two piece rotor and all the hardware for the 92-95 civic. You will need to make a spacer or have a new bracket machined like i did for mine. But i never realized how good they were until i took them off for this past winter since my girlfriend is driving my other accord. I cant wait to get the wilwood 4 piston caliper and do the rear conversion but its all abou the money. But i strongly think this is worth your time and money and may save your life someday.

that is the problem with big brake kits, you can't run small rims in the winter.

Well I found a site that has the front kit for $170..... http://www.dynamicspeedlab.com/level.itml/icOid/138 I emailed them if they could get me the rear kit too.
Yea those 4 piston calipers would be nice but I wan't to run 16" wheels so I can get bigger tires, so the better calipers are out of the question unless I can get some that will work with 16" wheels.

I forgot to mention the black finish were dirt cheap i was considering buying new fronts and rears since i could get the black carbon ones cheaper than my current front setups. I will see how things go when it comes time to install the sei disc setup i have.

before yu install those try looking for a 88-89 legend rear discs. I was looking at them at the junkyard and I think the rear knuckle is swapable. The layout is exactly the same as the accord but they use a rotor with twice the surface area and a caliper to match. only thing is the bolt pattern but that can get taken care of by swapping the accord hub and drilling the new stud holes in the correct pattern.

Yea I guy was talking about the lengend set up a long time ago but he never tired it out but that might be worth while for someone to look into.
Well I found the black rotors on a site where I'm able to get them for $390 and shipping. Thats not to bad since retail would be $520, and I can get the AEM pads for $90, but I'm still looking to get the Greenstuff pads for around the same price.

Well I can't get the green stuff pads any cheaper then $117 shipped and the AEM pads are $93 shipped, so I'm thinking of going with the AEM pads and saving my self some more $$$.

I have aem pads on my wifes 2000 Accord and stand by them. Hardly any brake dust and resists heat ten times better than oem honda pads too.

Justin those prices seem a bit steep i think i paid $63 for my aem pads and the black rotor setups are cheaper under $200 not $520...So if you want the black ones go to www.optauto.com they were dirt cheap compared to the $400 i paid for the regular finish drilled/slotted ones. I could have done both my front and rear for what i paid for the fronts alone but you have to like the black finish though.

hey rob/guaynabo...wouldnt have an extra set of those adapter plates would you? also it says a option auto the front can only accept a 17" or bigger rim...is that correct or can 16's work?

I cant get anymore of the brackets made i did check with my machinist and he is in a new location and dont have the CNC program any more. I tried to help you guys out and did a group buy for them last year and a lot of people wanted them but only one person put up the money. I ended up loosing money on the deal since i had bought the special high grade bolts in bulk. So i dont want to get involved with making more but it was easily done if you mount the original hardware you can see how much you need to shim it and have a machinist make it or even just use a spacer.

The numbers I listed were for front and back. At Option they don't have the front kit in stock and the total price with shipping is $502. At dynamicspeedlab it $483 shipped and this is with AEM F&R kits and AEM pads.

oh ok rob...so all you had machined were the small spacers correct? so can 16's fit around them?

RobT5580
03-13-2004, 11:49 PM
I had a whole new bracket made up because i wanted it to be all one piece. I never did get to try 16's but i think Juan(oldschoolswap) said 16's will clear if im not mistaken.

Justin86
03-14-2004, 12:04 AM
yea 16's are the smallest you can go which sucks for winter cause I need to find some cheap winter wheels now. All my 13" and 14" I need to sell now.

oh yea I now have 4x 13" steelies for sale, a pair of 13" studded snow tires(Matt has dibbs) and 4x 14" alloys with one flat tire for sale. So any body close by(shipping costs to much) that wants some burn out tires give me a call. :)
