I have a 3 generation Accord and It has about 156k on it and I want to do something to get more power out of it. I was thinking about buying a new head and putting new pistons and rings in it. And a new carb and headers. Or should just buy another engine. If anybody thinks i should get another engine, what type? It will be a great help.

it all depends on how much money you have. if you don't have any, you won't get far. but if you have unlimited amount, you can do whatever you want.

Well I am looking at putting in at least $1500 to $2000. Into the engine.

contact member "Sean", ask him about GM EFI conversion. convertin to fuel injection will boost some HP.
do full exhaust: headers, high flow catalitic converter or straight pipe if you don't have emissions, and custom 2.25 cat back system with nice muffler.
combination of GM EFi conversion and full exhaust should give you at least 30hp.

what about rebuilding the top end of the engine? Do you know of any kits to do so?

top end, you mean cylinder head, well, you can take it to a mashine shop and they can do all kind of things to it. talk to sean about cylinder heads.
