7" wide rim with 45mm to 40mm offset, NOT LESS THAN THAT. And run the correct plus tire size you will not rub anywhere from full extention to resting on the bump stops. Correct plus tire size in 17" is 205/40-17

Most aftermarket rims are 40mm offset, but do not buy any rims that you don't know the offset of, it's important.

I just put 205 40 17's on my wifes se-i and no rubing. But when I bought the rims 2 tires had 245 45's and they rubbed everywhere.

17's are perfect for a 3G. Lower 1.5" and 17's looks sweet!

I'm rocking 18's with 215/40/18 and no rub I sit pretty low as well. There is a pic of my hatch on honda-tech that a friend took on the way to a team integra meet while racing a b16 teg and hanging door to door!
Instructions; go to www.honda-tech.com hit search by creator and type in civmochris and I think its thought you guys would like to see this, and there are several pics of my friends tegs (silver w/ jdm conversion and blue da) and my new project so far 18's cai 2.25 piping weapon R coilovers and da frontend conversion.

40's!? are you really sure thier not 35's? 40's are way WAY to tall, tire's alone would raise the car up a little less than 3/4". Adding how their rolling diameter is 6.7% too tall (like running taller gearing) to how heavy the wheel/tire is and that's also going to hurt your acceleration. In to that, running to tall of a tire will make the tire go closer to any possible rub points.

its actually about as much sidewall as a 205/40/17. Its still the proper overall height
