The swap went pretty well overall. Nothing too major went wrong, but the people that resurfaced the flywheel popped out a small bushing that was NOT supposed to be removed, and I had to buy another flywheel (and couldn't afford the money or time to resurface it).

Big thanks to babyblue89 (and his dad!!) who donated the tranny and everything I needed minus the clutch kit, and helped me ENORMOUSLY putting it in...thanks man!!! I owe ya!!!

So without further ado, $190 later and here she is:

Nice...so, how hard was it converting?

Good work! I just did mine two weeks ago. It's pretty straight forward.

cdscowboy

Yeah, like dane said, it's pretty straight forward, but still kind of a pain. That is to say there's not a lot of figuring out what goes where, it's just a matter of getting the damn thing in! It's a lot more fun to drive, that's for sure, though my tibialis anterior (shin muscle) is being used a lot more than it has in the last 3 years :)

There's a couple odd things though:
Something that spins is scraping something, cause I can hear it tick against it when I'm moving. I was thinking it was the dust plate on the brakes because I stepped on them to get the axles out. Any other places to check?
Sometimes when I come to a stop at a light or whatever, the RPMs will go up to like 1100-1200 for a second or three, then go back down to idle...odd.
And lastly, I think I fixed this, but when she would be warming up, after a minute or two, the RPMs would fluxuate from 1000-1400ish in a cycle. I unplugged the little harness closest to the firewall on the TB and it seems to have disappeared.

Oh, should I reset my ECU? And how to do so? Thanks!

Wow nice job! Id say it was worth it. Manuals are WAY more fun than automatics.

Mine does this too sometimes, i'm not sure wether it's got something to do with the auto ECU being different from the manual ECU (if it is different...), or it's just my fast idle solenoid thats a little screwed...

Actually, he lives up in Hillsboro, about 1.5 hours north of me. Still fairly close though.

I remembered one more thing...my power steering seems to be acting funny, like it stutters or something...and ideas? Thanks :)

PS...I think it even sounds better!!

cdscowboy

Before I say "You're damn right you pansy-a$$ biatch," do you have those headers?? :D

But yes, of course we'll race...and I'll probably lose cause I haven't driven stick in 3 years, but it's cool. :)

Very nice Matt...it was about time :) That 'stuttering' power steering is probably just a loose belt that's slipping when you're using the ps pump. Looks great! Congrats!

Actually the stuttering was just low fluid level....derrrr. So that's fixed, and it turns like a champ :D

hey maybe you guys should save that race for the redding meet so you can watch my tails as I smoke all of you. :D

No way man...I drove for 9 f-ing hours for this race...oh yeah, and to see my mom. Details. And plus, it'd be nice to at least have a chance at winning :D I've heard rumors about you.....not sure what the hell they are, but I've heard them!

Justin86
03-27-2004, 06:37 PM
Well you don't have to race me but it would be cool if you could make it to this meet. We are going to make this a yearly meet so this won't be the last time, but it will be fun. :D

cdscowboy
03-27-2004, 06:41 PM
Well I'm planning on going to Redding, just don't know if I'll race you or not is all :) It'll be a good time for all, I'm sure! Oh, check out my thread in Off Topic for some pics, whoever's looking here...

Justin86

So did you beat Bitesize or did he have the weight advantage for the race?

cdscowboy
03-27-2004, 07:31 PM
Well I was definitely weighed down. I had all my ski stuff, clean laundry, and other misc. stuff. We did a rolling start "race" if you could call it that. I don't know if he was going easy on me or not, but I stuck with him pretty well. It was a short race though, cause there were other people on the road like 3/4 mi up. Still fun though.

BITESIZE
03-27-2004, 09:28 PM
Fuckin A! Dude we were going 80 mph in that 40 mph zone, so i slowed down........but yah, I was actually trying, and I was staying ahead. We should have stopped then raced, because I was rolling in 3rd and dropped it into 2nd and then we both took off. Our cars did good. KUDOS TO THE BOTH OF US!

BITESIZE
03-27-2004, 09:29 PM
P.S. my car weighs alot, especially with those heavy ass rims.

cdscowboy
03-27-2004, 09:54 PM
Yeah, we were goin pretty damn fast...everything to our sides was blurry ;) haha

The only reason you stayed ahead is cause there were people in my lane and I didn't want to slam into them. I doubt your rims weigh as much as all that crap I had with me!! You are a formidable adversary, though...kudos! :)

Justin86
03-27-2004, 10:42 PM
well you guys will have to race again in redding. We also have a little auto cross road race set up for time trials. :)

sounds like your IAC valve is screwed. especially if you unplugged it from the harness. replace that and see if that fixes it.

Did you use the 5 speed ecu?

cdscowboy
03-28-2004, 11:36 PM
No, I'm just using the ECU from the auto. I never swapped it. I was told it was just something to do to make it more stock.

BITESIZE
03-29-2004, 12:39 AM
Automatic ecu OWNZ you! Ha Ha, when I was at the salvage yard, I borrowed the 5 speed ecu, by placing it in my tool box, I intend on returning it someday. :)
