I bought my car last week from a private seller. It was tagged at $1950. And the guy was hell bent not to let it go under $1600 so i gave it to him. The car has 156,000 miles on it but the interior is perfect. The body is great except a punch size dent under the right tail light. Its a 1987 LXi automatic. Do you think i got a good deal? Its my first car and it went a little over my budget, but i need your input guys. Did i get ripped off? :burn: I dont know.

Your Thoughts?

I'd say you got a 3g. Not a great deal but not ripped of either. I paid 1700 for mine and it was in worse condition than that.

I'd say it was a fair deal. I bought my first 3g (the '86) for $1000 and it was in pretty rough shape. I then put in another $1200 to get it one the road. I think got ripped huge on that one.
My new one (the '89) cost me $800 and needs about $400 to get it on the road, but it's in great condition mechanically and the body's got a tiny bit of rust, but all in all it's solid.

I paid 400 bucks for my 88 LX-i sedan with a 5 speed. No dents but needs paint. No mechanical problems other than a blown radiator fan fuse and a bad AC compressor. Been driving it for almost a year and never had a problem. The 88 LX-i hatch, aka the bastard hatch cost me 800 and the a tranny shelled on the way home. I have almost double what I paid for it into it. Some days the dog bites you, somedays you bite the dog. As long as your happy thats all that matters

i paid $150 for 86 LXI with blown motor and no tranny. total cost to get it running $50.
so for $200 i got the best deal.

I don't think you got a bad deal at all if it's mechanically sound. I paid $750 for mine, but it needed suspension work. By the time everything was fixed, it came to around $1500 altogether, so I'd say you're right in the ballpark.

Damn Alex! That's incredible man...

I paid about $3000 for my Accord back in 1997. We got it from an old Woman that rarely drove it. We got it with about 60,000 miles... maybe less. It was in perfect condition, exterior as well as interior. She really didn't know what she had. I think she just wanted to get rid of it though. I took really good care of it since then although my sister drove it for a while and put some dents on her. I have only put 100,000 on her in 7 years.

Paid 450$ (canadian) for mine, but i must be next to 2000$ by now in various repairs and attempt of repairs i did on it. The car run fine now, but still look bad. I doubt i would do the same now that i know how to get a loan...

i didn't have to do much work. i just swaped the tranny from my old car, i had the headgasket kit already, so all i had to do is put everything back together.
took me about a month, i had school, but it was worth every single minute i spend on my car. it runs like a champ. it has brand new motor with less than 5K on it.

So, with this in mind if you were willing to pay $1600. Then the cars value is $1600. Now is this what blue book is, well if your not going to use it as collateral to secure goods. Then this does not apply. So if your happy with the car for $1600 and the reliability of these cars taken into account and you had the car checked to be mechanically sound.
Hope this helps

Wow some of u guys got ur cars CHEAP. I bought mine from my father 2 years ago for $1000. It had alot of oil leaks, no AC, and the harness is messed up. Ive put $1500 in oil leaks and engine problems alone, then $250 for a new AC compressor.

$700 for my 87 lx had 15ok and needed t.l.c. she runs like a champ now though buying an 88 lxi for $500 soon. personally it would have to be garrage kept for me to pay 1500 or more. theres to many of em out there for dirt cheap but why cant i find a damn coupe for shit?
