Hey, I'm a few thousand miles overdue for a new timing belt on my 1989 Accord LX (68,500 miles). A mechanic I go to who specializes in Hondas says that I need to replace the water pump when I replace my timing belt. I'm no mechanic myself, yet that sounded interesting, and wanted to know if anyone has some feedback on this before I do anything. Thanks.

I think most recommend that the water pump be changed with the timing belt. You're already working in that area so it might as well be replaced

if you have ps and ac, you might as well change those belts too.

since the radiator is drained of coolant, you can change the hoses too if they are cracked and old. :)

You don't HAVE to change it at all. It is easy to change the water pump on our cars without changing the timing belt. But the point is that as long as you're down there you might as well change it so that you don't have to even worry about it until next time your belt is done again.
