Test pipe

I really like this test pipe idea, rather than the hi-flow cat, where can i find one...i know someone found one a long time ago on ebay for our cars, but i can't! i really don't want to do a weld job due to the fact that i have to pass emmission. so it's got to be bolt on. is there a way to make one? for do anyone know other websites that have test pipes that fit our cars?

You would have to make one pretty easy. Get a peice of pipe long enough and weld a flange on each end so you can bolt it on and off.

yea it would be a pretty simple thing to do I could peice on together in about 30mins. Exhaust shops usally don't like to mess with flanges but they might be able to so something like that for you?

I can make you a test pipe but I'd need a stock cat to get the angle of the fanges and the dimensions... I threw mine away.

wish i was in your situation...unfortunately i live in CA, the mod-your-car-and-you'll-pay state. I've noticed saw a skyline in florida when i was there last year...don't even think about owning one here, well at least not the jdm highpowered beast. it's gotta be chevy nova status to be legal. well I wanted the cat for the flanges and the exact length of the cat end to end. unless somone knows the bolt spacing on the flanges and the inner diameter... it may or may not be 1.75" at the flange. But yeah, i could peice together test pipes If I knew all that and had a cheap place to get the parts from.

Ok do you have exhaust that way the test pipe isn't smaller then everything else.

Running a straightpipe, glasspack and dual tips and it rocks! It gives some unwanted attention though so no revving on the streets ;)

Well with a turbo it helps to make the car much quieter. I have the same set up pretty much, header 2.25 pipe, not cat and single glass pack. It's much lounder then the 95db legal limit, but I'm still trying to find someone that will test it for me. ha ha ha:D

sry guys i still have the stock exhaust piping. but just the muffler makes it loud to the point i want it. so i want a test pipe that's the same size as the original cat or one thats the same inlet/outlet of the stock piping.

you live in santa clara. Dude Redding is really really far from where you are. I'm closer to redding than you are and Redding is about 6-7hr drive for me in SF.

About the whole test pipe thing. Emissions is a bitch here, but if you know people, you are good. Skylines are around in california. There are a few R32's here in SF that i see. Don't know how they pass emissions but yea, that test pipe will be done for. Aren't santa clara cops anal about muffler noise? I know for sure daly city cops are the most anal cops I've ever seen. They love to just nitpick on imports vs the domesstics who have the flowmasters and the magnaflow and get away with it.

Yea there is some cops here that are anal about imports I know they pull me over every chance they get but still no tickets. Yea I can just give him the pipe no problem and charge you just for the parts. I'll try to get the stuff soon but it will be like $5 or so.

to justin, no prob on the money, as long as it can get to my hands. and busted blue youre right, redding is a land far far away. That's why i'm skeptical if i can go, as the days get closer, i'm starting to doubt it. since my spring quarter has turned out pretty busy so far. about the muffler noise and import in Santa Clara. i'm too smart for getting a fix-ticket. i'm constantly watch for cops left, right, front, back. i have gotten pulled over, but it was for speeding. they never said anything about it being loud. i would guess that the test pipe wont add too much too the noise maybe just a little if i get busted, it will probly be for something dumb like speeding. i've had a cop check my muffler out one night. he just glanced at it and asked if i build the car for racing, i say nah and he just let me go. didn't give a crap.

I am a little late in this conversation and was just wanting to throw out that I have a test pipe that will fit a 97-01 mirage, it is a little used but not serious. I will let it go for way cheap if someone was willing to buy it from me. I dont know about the bolt holes, etc. but if someone knew what they were doing with a welder, I dont see why this would be a problem to modify. I was just throwin my two cents out there if anyone was interested.
