I was thinking about getting a pair of 6x9's instead of subs and pushing them with my 600w kenwood amp that I had pushing my old subs. I was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions about what brand and style would be the best.

If this gets flamed so be it..but I was just wondering if I was the only one who was thinking about doing this.

it is not a good idea to push 600 watt into 2 6x9 speakers.
you will see some smoke comming out of them.
if you don't want a lot of bass, get smaller subs and smaller amp.

I plan on doing it sometime when I stop spending money on performance stuff. I was planing on running 6x9 in the rear deck and componets up front and power them with a 4x50W AMP. :)

now that would work just fine.

I second that. But dont think that 6x9's put alot of bass out like subs do. I am kind of a bass head and therefore couldnt live without subs.

If you are looking for good mid range bass decent 6x9's can actually rattle ur mirrors a little but if you want real bass go with 2 8" subs or bigger depending on your preference.

yea right i know, this is'nt a good setup, but i had my bose amp running 4 6x9's and the front speaker's and the bass from the rear sound very well . . . .

so the 600 kenwood amp is just too much to be pushing on those 6x9's huh?
Ok then I guess one 10 or one 12 inch sub would be a whole lot better. Thanx for the input guys.

Yea depends on what you want with a system. I prefer something that is real good quality and doesn't rattle your shit like subs. Right now with my Alpine/Infinty set up it sound real good and has deep bass. People ask me if I have subs. The bass is perfect form the inside it sounds like I have subs but from the outside you can tell they are just 6.5" and there is no physical rattle that subs give.

I used to have an old sunbird that had 6x9s in the rear and they sounded great! I loved the way they sounded, and they were just stock speakers with a cheap jensen cd player. I was just wondering what would be best.
