Let's say I'm an ass and I snapped one stud off of the screen on the carb lid off... which i did because i was careless when tightening the bolt. It seems to stay tight, but do i have to replace it anyway? Looks like I'd have to take the top of the carb apart to do so... and if i don';t have to...

i'd say don't worry about it. i don't even see that the screen does much, since everything it might keep out would be stopped at the filter

the screen can go but you still need the screen to keep a good seal between the air box to the carb.

You can remove the stud... which end did you snap off?
The stud has a bolt on one end and then the flat round part in the center and then the bolt on the other end... so as long as you have the flat round part still attatched to the bolt that bolted to the carb then you can get pliers and unbolt it... then just get a long 6mm bolt I believe bolt and use that to tighten down the lid.

The part where you'd put the bolt on is snapped off, all that is left falls under the hole on the screen.

you can remove the stud with wise grips.
go to junk yard and get another one from there.
