Help! Can't get handle off door!

I am trying to remove the inside panel off my rear door but I can't figure out how to get the window handle off without breaking it or the chrome ring at it's base. Anybody know how to get the thing off?

There's a little wire key under it. It is shaped like this:

Pull out on the handle so you can see the wire part with a loop on it under the handle base. Slip a flathead screwdriver in the loop and pull it out. You can also use needlenose pliers.

Cool. It worked, but I used my upholstry tool instead, it's way thinner and it's double sided so it pushed down on both legs of the spring clip at the same time and it just popped off (took me about ten minutes to find the damned thing).
