well, you get what you pay for. I've never had one but there are some that claim if you get a ticket they'll pay for it.

The one I had didn't work. Some people swear by them, but personally I'd rather trust my eyes rather than a radar/laser detector.

I have one in each of my cars. They work well on the Highway. In city you have to push a button that helps filter out the crap that you would expect to see in the city “ City Mode “. It works 90% of the time. The cool thing is they give you a heads up if your cruising like I do around 10-15 mph over the speed limit they help give you time to slow down. I trust mine. They have both saved my azz on several occasions.

Whistler is also a very good brand. One of mine is a Cobra and the other is a Radio Shack made by Whistler I think at least it looks identical to Whistler.

Valentine One is probably one of the best dectectors on the market. If you have the $$$ to throw down on it you will be investing in something that will truly allow you to speed and feel safe while doing so. I have a cheap radar detector that Brian gave me and it helps you to get a good idea when you are aproaching a cop. The best thing is, if you do get pulled over and the detector didn't go off, you know that if they say that they got you on radar that they are bullshitting.

I bought a $30 from an autoparts store, it works great... It does pick up banks and other city stuff, but it will start pickin up a cop way far away before i can even spot him, but other times I'll drive right past one and nothing, but I think that depends on what the officer has turned on inside the car... All & all its saved me a few times, but there good to have if you like to go fast....

Somtimes Even if a cop cars radar is off, the equipment will still "leak" a signal, so If you have a nice enough radar detector it will detect that, becuase cops arent always prone looking for speeders when they see you race by lol

Very true, i just got a cobra and its not bad but i think the future im gonna upgrade to a Escort Passport 8500 sooner or later because the cobra doesnt have the greatest range but does the job. Detectors arent a cure all but id rather have one than not. Some cops spray radar all the time, but most dont so if youre gonna try to save your ass when you do stupid things, youre gonna need a detector and good eyes/ears looking for cops.

I've owned Escort radar detectors in one way shape or form since 1986 and swear by them. Of course nothing is going to work when you are alone on the highway going 25mph over the speed limit. Mine works fine as long as I stay around other cars (as in not on the road at 2am when no ones out) and stay a reasonable amout over. Of course nothing is REALLY good against laser, by the time you pick it basically too late.

All the mentioned brands aren't the best. The best is to obey all traffic laws. :D

Disobeying traffic laws is a daily occurrence for me. In Socal, I use to know most of the cops by name... It's harder to not speed in Cali though... the roads are so badass and the view is just incredible... Especially when you live out on the beach... you feel like making tracks every chance you get.

Damn, I miss that place. There are so many curvy and fun roads that were major routes that you would use all the time. Here all of the major roads are straight. :thumbdown

Damn Vinny, you have never heard of "to obey all traffic laws"... it's the number one seller in Burma right now. You must be old man! J/K.

before my car killed mine i had it on highway all the time, and in cali you only needed to worry about the ka band, just ignore the others, but when i went to oregon, i almost got pulled over by a k band hit, so i guess it varyies.

valentine one is by far the best. Its the only one I will buy. There are like 300 on ebay but they are worth every penny. When the technology advances like new radar or laser detection you can send it to them and they will upgrade yours. I know plenty of people with different radar detectors and I think the valentine one is the only one to get.
