Rims, Weight vs. Preference

ok, so i've found that almost all of the bigger rims i liked are heavier than i thought. i'd thought to get 17's, but i think 16's will be more what i want. i still want a good sidewall and a bit of ride quality. also, as you should know, a heavier rim will slow your roll. so i've looked in the sticky that has some sites with wheel weight specs. pretty helpful, and kinda good to know those things. i'll take a lighter rim over a heavy rim. although thats going to be hard because the ones i want really would look good on my car. i've found quite a number of rims that are light weight and have to looks im into. what do y'all think? would you go with some heavy ass rim or try finding a comperable light weight? i think i'd go for the light weight. i dunno, the ones i really liked were Team Loco, dont remember which model, but they were the multispoke ones.

I have OEM 95 GSR wheels that are 15inch that weigh like 17lbs each? I like my size of choice with 205/50/15 since it gives comfort as well as a nice smaller sidewall as well as somewhat lightweighted. I love my setup. hope you decide!

i'm all about performance, so the lighter, the better... also, IMO, i'd rather have 15 inch rims, unless the 16's are less than a pound heavier

i'm looking for something like a 16 inch rim thats about 15lbs. i'd like it to be as light as my 13's or lighter. beggers cant be choosers as they say, so i'm probley not going to find anything that i really want. i really want those team loco multi spokes, i hope they didnt discontinue them. i cant find anything like them, the ones i did find didnt the have the spokes going in, then were flush with the outside of the rim, which i think looks cheap.

I'm going down to a 16" wheel and about 13lbs a peice. lot lighter then what i got now, they are 45lbs running.

Take a look at OZ Superleggra, they are light and have that muti-spoke look. Personally, I am looking at Rota Slipstreams. They are reasonably priced and pretty light. I have 17" Motegi MR8's on my car now and I really like the style, but they are pretty heavy.

I'll be ditching the new ADR's I bought a few months ago for 16" SSR comps. its what I wanted in the first place. No matter how many people tell me how nice the ADR's look on the car, they were and will be second choice. I want lightweight wheels so bye bye ADR's. Plus I am not too crazy about the 17's. All I need is 1200 bucks for wheels

There are some 17's that weigh 13lbs. Centerline has a few-you might like the Excel. Are you looking at a certain price range?

Some SSR Comps would be hella sweet but have have heard storied about pot-holes and bent rims.

Some motegi rims don't weigh that much, I think my 16's are 16.5lbs per wheel.

ok, ok , ummm, just wanted to add in here....Check out some OZ wheels.... , they are like 15 pounds per wheel on there lighter aftermarket wheels. They make race wheels, so.., being that they make race wheels, they should be really light(obviously) . 15 pounds is pretty light . I'd buy them ,but I'm a lil low on cash right now.

I might also be in the market for some new rims, and I'm interested in the Rota Subzeros, myself. The Slipstreams are okay, too. I dunno...I like just a little more going on in the wheel than the Slipstreams offer.


P.S. Does anyone know the weight of the Konig Glides? I like those a lot, and can't find the weight anywhere. I've already tried Jim's links, btw.

Yea Rota would be a good wheel, and they are not $300 like the SSR. I really like the Rota Attacks but they don't make them in a 16x7 that I want.

i'll be looking at the wheels y'all are telling about. i really dont wanna go over the 17 inch size for a number of reasons. 1st, not every street in my city is smooth, and as my friends with their 17s find out is a bad thing. so i'd like the bigger look while having the largest sidewall i can get on that rim. 2nd, i think most of the 17's i've seen on 3gees around town and other ones are over kill. they look a little too big. although that could be that they dont have a drop or body kit to fill in. i know theres many wheels that appeal to me, but their weights just dont. if i'm spending the big bucks, gotta make a good choice that i wont be regretting later on.

ehh, looked at the one's y'all said, didnt really care for any. maybe the rota attacks, rota subzeros(i'd looked at those before), rota slipstreams. ok, so i liked all the rota's, mostly because the spoked go in somewhat to the rim and arent flush with it.

I've been looking into wheel weights... Right now I have steelies on both of my Accords. I plan on getting some 16" Rota Subzeros (bronze, 14.5lbs) for my 92 Accord sedan (Phantom Gray), and some 15" (maybe) Konig Heliums (also bronze, perhaps... 11.25lbs) for my 86 LXi hatchback (currently blue, may be painted flat black eventually... I don't even have the car yet!)

Looks are important, but so is function. I'm still trying to make sense of the wheel weight to tire weight relationship... Larger wheels are heavier, but require smaller tires (though those low profile tires can be heavy). Smaller, lighter wheels require more tire mass. I want to find a happy medium. 15"-16" seems to be best, from what I can tell.

I love the style of the attacks, but I need them in 16x7 and a 45mm offset and to be light weight........ any help guys. Most sites I find the wheels they don't list the offset so I never know if they will work.

www.jaydm.com is where I was planning on getting mine. A buddy of mine bought his C8s from www.machiii.com and he was happy with them. Both have good prices and seem to be reliable.

If they don't list the offset, give them an email! They should know about what they're selling... If they don't, then perhaps you should look elsewhere!

Yea that is my problem that they don't come in 16". I love that rally style wheels but finding light weight ones in 16" in nearly impossible. :sadwave:

I have 16's and I have 205/45/16 tires...But i'm concidering going to 205/40/16 just to try it when these tires run out.
