are there any draw backs from using the prelude distributer? does it really boost power much? is there any problems like it over advancing timing at higher rpms? should i set my timing to stock when using this distributer?

thanx

i really doubt there will be a power increase with an OEM prelude dizzy.

I have heard that you do gain some vacuum advance using a prelude distributor on a carbed motor. shepherd79 did this and he said it was worth doing. Talk with him and let us know what Distributor it was and the details.

Also ask K-roy, he's the last person I know to have done the swap

More power is debateable. I say maybe 1HP gain at most.
What you gain is a smoother running car and a little more kick at high rpms.

Hey kroy can you give us the info on what year and model prelude dizzy we should look for? I've heard there's a couple different kinds of variations. Like the number of vacuum tubes it has and stuff. Thanks for your help man!

When did you get your accord back?

I got mine off a 84-87 (not sure witch year) Prelude Carbureated A18. I would grab the cam, but im selling the car very soon. Mine has 2 vaccum lines, Shepheard79 got one with only one vacuum line. So I guess there is a 50/50 chance of witch one you will find, but they will both work.

A few months ago I upgraded to an Accel Coil and it helped smoothe the idle and run stronger, the new dizzy doubled the effect from before. After this along with removing the emissions systems my car runs awesome, Its hard to think back to when it was bone stock (scary).

my motor seems to rev up faster after like 3000 RPM... i'm using alex's old lude distributor (he's now EFI, this is from his now dead carbed car)

and this is the a20 it's going on, but it's coming from an a18

so it will work on the a3 head,a dn the a1 head? i have a a18 dizzy on my lude right now. but when it comes tiem to drop in my webered a20, i want to kno what dizzy to use. the head i have now is a a20a3 head.

hmm... the a3 has an extra bolt for the distributor... i don't see why the a3 distibutor won't work on the a1, but i do know that when you do the EFI swap, you have to change distributors... i think it's because of a crank angle sensor, but don't quote me on that...

yea ive heard that also. so i was planning on picking myself up a a1 head. but i have a a3 dist. and a a18 dist. and i want to kno which one i need to use or do need a1 dist. arg, why cant they all be the same! but looking at the a18 head i have, and the a20a3 head i have. where the dist bolts on is toataly differant. so im thinking the a3 dist wont work on the a1 head. but if the a18 dist. bolts to the a20a1 head im in bussiness.

the a18 dis DOES fit the a1 head

thankyou. thats all i wanted to hear. music to my ears! but jsut to let other peopel kno. the a18 dist will not fit the a3 head

Vanilla Sky

well, it should fit... the a3 dis fits the a1 head, and the a18 dis fits the a1 head... in that case, the a18 should fit physically, but lacks a crucial part of the PGM-FI system, therefore not compatible with the fuel injected motor... now, there is a possibility that with the EFI system, the lude still gets more secondary timing... if that's still the case, then it would still be a worthy upgrade fo get the distributor from a lude a3 motor

it fits the A3 head you just need to swap over the cam bearing from the A1 or A2...
