View Full Version : how low for my 3G?

pinoy3gaccord
06-26-2004, 09:58 AM
how low will i lower my 3G LX? im from the phils and getting an original lowering spring here is hard. my friend told me that we'll just cut the coils. or buy a surplus spring and cut it.

pimp_n87LXi
06-26-2004, 10:10 AM
Well lets see, if you cut the coils that will be one of the biggest mistakes you've made. It rides like complete ass and it kills your struts really fast. If you can't find any lowering springs there then I might suggest checking on ebay or "market place" here on the board and you should find a decent deal between the two. But if you cut your coils you will regret it.

pinoy3gaccord
06-26-2004, 10:18 AM
ok. but the thing is there are no lowering springs here in the phils. that's why il just buy a surplus spring and cut it and i will still have my original springs.

by the way, how heavy is a 3G LX?

pimp_n87LXi
06-26-2004, 10:20 AM
There doesnt have to be lowering springs in the "phils"... Check on ebay and here (3geez.com) and you can have them shipped for a reasonable price. And as far as the last question (by the way, how heavy is a 3G LX?) use search... Always search before asking questions that have probably been answered many times before

ok..thanks

pimp_n87LXi
06-26-2004, 10:23 AM
Also if you're going to get lowering springs it would pb be best if you got aftermarket struts as well

pinoy3gaccord
06-26-2004, 10:26 AM
ok..like how much will it cost me minus shipping? for struts and springs?

pimp_n87LXi
06-26-2004, 10:28 AM
It all depend on what brand you get and who's selling them... All I can say is search because I honostly dont know. I dont even have a 3rd gen accord anymore I have a 3rd gen prelude

pinoy3gaccord
06-26-2004, 10:30 AM
thanks dude... what yr is ur lude? s or si? i also got one...but it's only 2.0S. but my lude only has 44K miles

pinoy3gaccord

hahaha...i havent changed mine yet(lude)...maybe when my accord comes out from the mechanic...i had an engine swap with my accord..

pimp_n87LXi
06-26-2004, 10:35 AM
I'm hoping to get one today and put it on. I had the car for 24 hours when it broke. I had just bought it the day before... I'm just so happy about it

pinoy3gaccord
06-26-2004, 10:39 AM
yeah...ludes have better handling than the accord. but as for the ride, i like the accord much better. i got a B16 for my accord...what do you think bout the swap(aside from the low-torque everybody is saying)? :)

pimp_n87LXi
06-26-2004, 10:49 AM
Overall I like the prelude better... More power, better handling, better interior and exterior design... But the accord also is a family car. but yeah I'd take a 3rd gen lude over a 3rd gen accord

pinoy3gaccord
06-26-2004, 10:53 AM

It'll cost you $0-40 to ship springs or shocks. How much time are you going to spend to go pick up your shocks and/or springs locally? How much gas will you spend? Is your time and gas worth less than the difference between the price you pay on line (including shipping) and the local (after tax) price? Sometimes local price is higher even when you take shipping into account.

BTW read a bit more about it in the forums. You will want after market shocks with anything other than stock springs and you're pretty much limited to Bilsteins or Tokicos.

Here are some H&R spring prices for your reference:

Oh, on the second look he's in Philippines. Well that might bump the shipping cost. The custom coilovers mentioned look more promising, but you'll still end up with revalved Bilsteins as your only "satisfaction guaranteed", so to say, choice of shocks I'm not mistaken.

bullard123, I'm not exactly following you. Did I come across the wrong way or something?

First of all, how did you get a 3gen accord there in pi? As far as I can remember, Honda just started selling cars there around 92 or 93, I think. Did you get it shipped there or something? Anyway, go with the mechanics estimate. That will only cost you around 3,500 pesos dude. Cheapest decent lowering springs here are around $60 in the internet but the shipping will kill you due to destination and weight of the springs. I'm still kinda amazed that you have one over there.

Good luck p're on your 3gen project.

check your pm. Anyway, I suggest against the coilovers. With the road condition in the philippines, you'll be changing your balljoints and bushings a lot.

Oyvind Ryeng
06-30-2004, 08:34 AM
Aha! I knew there was a hidden link between balljoint life and excessive lowering! I use about 2-3 balljoints a year, but only the lower ones in front seems to be having a hard time. I even use Honda OEM balljoints, witch costs a fortune here in Norway, but still they don't last a full year. And this is with 70-profile, 13-inch wheels; I can't imagine the stress on the BJ's with 40-profile 17's!

Note: OEM lower front balljoint is USD$200 a piece here!

Dude, for that kind of money you could fly to the US, buy your yearly supply for $25/piece (lower front) and come out ahead. Think of it as free airfare for your vacation if not a few nights too.

I don't even want to think how much cheaper it would be to ship them there.

Yeah, the prices are outrageous. Maybe I should just order like 6 Moog balljoints and be done with it. That would probably last me a lifetime.

Just want to add, a brand, spanking new distributor is USD$1250. Gotta love Norway, Norwegian taxes, and greedy dealerships...
