Price check: 1987 LX-i Hatch

I met a guy who was willing to sell his '87 LX-i. He said he'd sell it for the right price, the price he wanted was $1200. The car looks flawless from what I saw that night, the interior looked fine. Come to find out that the transmission is missing 5th gear. So based on 5th gear missing from the tranny, what should I ask him to lower it to?

depending on the mileage and rust . . . . .
but since the tranny is missing 5th gear, he should lower it the 850-1000 at least . . . . .
