Not sure if this is normal, but Ill tell u whats happening. Im reading that idle for an 86 accord is suspossed to be under 1000, maybe 900. When my idle is at 900, my lights dim, as do my interior lights. Once the gas is hit, they light up again. So, should I set my idle to 1000, to prevent this? And plz dont say alt or bat, as both are new.

really your idle should be between 850-750.
i prefer mine's lower.
but no that's normal, my 86 did that, and i reven replace the alternator, it did it.

750-850?? Really.... Well then, maybe I didnt have to replace my carb, haha, wouldnt that be funny. So the dimming of the lights is normal?? That seems kinda weird to me, but who knows, it is a honda.

My 86 accord is idled at 1500 RPM  (dont know if thats good or bad). i bought it like that, i think they are trying to cover up something with the high idle. got a question, does the high idle increase any performance? lol just a though. i noticed my car rolls really fast in drive (i have an auto) is that one of the causes of high idle?

Wow, 1500, thats insane. Is your ac button on? A higher idle will help burn emissions, such as to pass aircare, or something like that. I cant see it helping with performance though, if anything u would just u more gas. Maybe u should turn down your idle, its a big black screw at the back of your carb. Just a suggestion. Wait for somebody who knows more to post b4 u run out taking my advice.

hey that's too damn high . . .
your car is driving itself.
idling @ 1500rpm's, uses gas, and when you shift gear(auto tranny), it wear's it out more.
first let it warm up.
if yoou have to tap the gas for normal idle then do it.
then for kick's try to pull on the gas, if the idle goes down more, then ya have a issue that i've been having.
but to lower the idle to proper rpm's.
look for the black thumb thingy turn it down till it get too the first line under 1,000rpm's.
then (if it works)
dissconnect the throttle controller.
plug the vacuum line.
if the engine rev's the system is functioning right, but the rpm should be 1,900rpm's.
lower it if it's above.

plus does you a/c work???

hope the info work??

If u pull up on the throttle cable, and your idle drops, your having the same prob I did. I replaced the throttle cable, and it still did it. Im not replacing the carb, hopefully this works. Had I known proper idle was only 900, i wouldnt be doing all this. Thought my butterfly spring was stickin.

i don't know . . .
my 86 did it, so i lwered the idle down to 200-300 rpm's.
which was good for me, cause the engine was quiter, it did'nt vibrate like it would at 650rpm's, and it did'nt do that trottle thingy as much.
my 88 does the trottle thing when the engine is warm . . . . .
it annoy's the hell outta me. . . .

When my car is off, it says im doing 200RPM, thats pretty low.

Acutally, its a figure of speech. Its kinda like the saying, when u see a 5 km/h sign in a park, its like, "jeez, 5 km/h , i start my car and do 5km/h" Know what I mean?

i have a EFI accord. ummm yeah i was just wondering if it helps with any performance also. i think my dad can help me turn it down if its very bad for the car. sometime it idles at 1500 (in park) and 1000 in neutral.

could be your fast idle screw sticking, it's located between the throttle bodyand intake plastic thingy, take a flat and screw it while the engine's warm . . .

would it change any performance if i turned it down???

nope, well might run a lil cooler since it's not revving hi in drive, cause i'm sure if the idle is about 1,300rpm in park when it's warmed, the idle in drive is gonna be 1,000 which is still too high, even for efi.
