okay i searched, now i don't mean to sound like a noob, but my starter is getting worse on my 88 lx auto.
the only way to start it is if the key was in start, while i hit the solenoid, then once it click's i hit the motor then it turn over.
while turning over it soun'd like the battery is dead but it's not.

anyway um . . . . . . . . .how do you remove the starter, i see 2 long bolt's like screw only on the motor, and the solenoid is joined into a housing around the motor.

i'm sorry, like i said don't mean to sound like a noob, i feel that it's two easy if it was those bolt's . . . .

The main thing is to clean the wire connections that attach to the new starter. B/c if you leave them corroded it's not going to work very well.

Yep, it's just them 2 bolts. The solenoid will come out with the starter. And also you need to disconnect the wires. It's a good idea to disconnect the battery before you remove the starter.

so you mean to tell me that, those two bolt's right in front off my face behind the main motor are the bolt's that hold it in place??????????
your kidding right????

That's it. 2 bolts that go thru the starter and into the engine block by the flywheel.

damn that's too easy, my head hurt's from thinking, and all that time i stood on one leg, trying to search for the bolt's, cause since it's an import they say it's harder to work on.
damn . . . .
thank's.

Sounds like your in the right spot. You're going to have fun replacing your alternator (if it goes out)! Seriously, from working on my car, that starter is in a tight spot. Hope you got some patience.

Maybe they say that so they can charge more. Actually there are things on our cars that are easy to do if you have some mechanical ability and the right tools.

well ddude2uc i'm ahead of ya, i had a 86lx, so if you have a carb and replace the alt. you know how hard it is.
i had no problem really i took it off, slide it over and pulled it up.
it took 1 1/2 day to do.
the reason, i went to the j/y got one off, tested it did'nt work. i did this like two more time's.
cut the shit out of myself, and hurt my thumb trying to hammer it in.
then came on here and a few guy's told me they had to sand it down some, i did that with a dremmel.
i got it in and was working fine.

the 88 lx has about 132k mile's on it, i doubt it'll go out anytime sooner.

other than that everything else was easy, but i don't wanna get my hope's up, cause i'm planning on converting to efi, this year . . . . . . .

and just think i was gonna get a beretta again . . .

Nothing has been as easy as my 1970 Chevy 1/2 ton P/U. I can crawl up under the hood and sit on the inner fender and wrench on it. Plus with years of past leaks everything is pretty easy to get loose very few rusted parts on mine anyway.

That crank bolt is m/f, I had to have a cheater bar about 4' with a little help holding the flywheel from moving. Broke a socket trying before I got good one. That was fun, lol :kekeke:

the problem is that the lower timing belt cover doesn't come off without removing the crank pully... if that is off then removing the timing belt is a snap * knock on wood :D
