Don't know if this has ever been asked before but i think it was my girlfriend who asked me!!!

....and i could'nt answer!!

Why aren't engines put in the other way round- the exhaust at the back and inlet at front?

Imagine how easy it would be to make ram-air!
we'd never have to worry about heat from the exhaust/engine warming up the intake air!

I wondered if i could do it but i'd end up with 5-speed reverse and only 1 forward gear 8-( :dunno:

dodge already thought of this.....look at ANY neon or stratus! Its a really good way to keep the intake colder.

all the new hondas are setup like that now.

They still make the D man, its counterclockwise.
The reason our engines are backwards from most is because they spin counterclockwise, as do most Hondas (A,B,D,F and Hs do). The new style K series spins clockwise, so therefore it mounts the other way. The K is the 4 banger thats in everything short of the regular Civic, except the Si witch has a K20.

So if you want it the other way go ahead and get a K series engine, they kick ass.

Now, here's the plan im getting a big valve conversion on my b20 (inlet side) swapping the manifolds (custom) making the timing 10 degrees 'after' tdc.

*Every 100000 miles service switch direction of engine rotation to ensure even wear on all engine components.

NB. servicing your car at the correct intervals can double your engine life.

*timing belt every 200000 miles

timing belt every 200000 miles
Umm, that would be verry bad. Every Honda tech I've ever asked said ever 80k miles. SHit I changed mine at 40k just to be on the safe side.

switching engine rotation isnt neccesarily a good thing. Honda engineers designed the motor to turn one way and one way only. Change the oil religiously and take care of it and that motor could last you 300-400k miles.

I'd like to see it though, ha ha :werd: But I highly doubt that it's possible.
