bullard123

I don't think the red reflector comes out. When you take the taillight cover off it appears to be molded to the inside of the cover. Didn't want to take any chances ruining the cover. Do you know any one that has done this??

looks awsome man, real good look with the rest of your car...dont take off the red middle part tho it would look too ricey and took plain. I say leave it the way it is

That looks sweet with the silver paint. How'd you do it?

bullard123

I guess this will be a quick how to. First of all you have to heat up the tail light cover to make the silicone soft that holds it together. Then take a knife or screwdriver and carefully go around the taillight cover to loosen it. You have to be very careful when you are doing this cause you can crack the taillight cover real easy. Once you get the cover off, take out the reflector pieces and cut your own into the same shape using plexiglass and that flourscent light cover stuff. I'll post a more detailed how to with pictures in a little while.

Yep. I just picked up a set of tails from a 4 door today at the junk yard. I'll be making them clear/red though. I guess I can take requests to make them, but I want to put this set on ebay first. I still have to make a HOW TO so that members won't think I'm just doing this to make a profit and not help any members on this board, cause that is clearly not my intentions. I just know some people have busy schedules and just don't have the time/equipment/ experience to do this.

Hey bullard your car is still lookin' sick. Where did you go to get your exhaust done? Just curious...I got mine done in fountain. I'd be willing to buy a set of the lights...I'll even go to A1 and get a set so you won't have to get them...let me know...

Yeah I seen some when I went in there last Friday. You will have to mix and match though. You know grab a driver's side light from one car a passenger side from another. Man you 4 door guys are lucky, you can never find a pair of hatch tails without scratches or cracks. Keep in touch and let me know what's up.

I made them, just sold a pair on Ebay a couple of days ago. Yes, I could make you a pair. What kind of model do you have a hatch??

I think you should make some sedan tails that have a clear red taillight b/c I know you would get tons of people wanting them. Clear top and red bottom... I'm sure you know what I mean.

been working late at work and when i come home is too late,,and the red piece on the tail light comes out by the way but i think it looks a lot better with it though, and plus you can tell there is a car there at night, and I'm working on putting air ride suspention on my car, and no it wont have a fast rise it will be like the cadilacs nice and slow.

could you lightly tint the reflector black after you clear the tails... just a thought, im more a fan of tinting as opposed to clearing, but those look nice.

any thoughts on red and clear hatch tails? that could look cool too.

I plan to clear my hatches tails and tint the 'red' part black = black and clear tails. but that wont happen till i have all the time in the world, i mean the summer.

Man those are some good ideas. You should experiment with that and let us know how they turn out. For clear/red tails for the hatch you will probably have to find another red reflector and cut it. But its worth a try, I just don't have the time right now.

This is the official unvailing of the concept art for my project hatch. note the tails...
(if I used your car as the base for this, I apologize, but it was very similar to what I have been planning on doing. I can remove it if you'd like)

Well, I have been real busy cleaning up my hatch before getting it started again. and in the process, I just cleared out my taillights as well. However, I left the red reflector on the sides of the lights in, painted the reverse lense holder chrome on the inside, the rest of the inside is high gloss black, and I nighshaded the clear cover of the taillight on the inside of the cover. I took the red lense out of the cover in the middle, but I didn't like the way it looked. I had to cut out new ones from the inside red reflectors and put the reflector back in the middle of the cover.
I bought red bulbs for the brake lights, and yellow bulbs for the turn signals.
I haven't seen them lit up yet, because the car doesn't have a battery yet!
I'll get pics of them real soon, just have to get some more stuff done before I fire her up!!! :)

I'm sure it's been covered before, at least a dozen times, but uh .. if I go to the junk yard and grab some 88/89 tails, sedan, they fit straight up to the 87 right?

.. Any way to distinguish the two types of tails? hehe

bullard123
05-15-2006, 04:27 AM
Nope the don't actually. Well the inside taillights won't of course and the outside ones leave a little gap.

:thumbdn: weak.

I don't want clear tails, but I want to spray clear tails dark red cus it'd look nicer then spraying stock red darker i think.

I may be wrong, I'll have to give 'er a try.
