depends if the boxes are shitty and also if you can get all the rattles out, it will sound good of you do it right. Id say, get an eq for the amps, so you can get the 12"s to cut off at a certain range and let the 15"s take over. thats my opinion, good luck with it.

So you want 4 subs and 2 amps at the same time? Ummm, I wouldn't do that, just take 2 12" and 1000W Kenwood, and this is going to be enough to rattle up your car!

hey, if you will give too much stress on the alternator, you may need to upgrade the alternator or you will be changing it every 3-4 months

It will sound terrible, sound quality wise. However, if you're like many people and louder = sounds better, then it will probably delight you.

However, if you do like what 88accordalltheway mentioned and EQ the subs so that the 12's are hitting higher bass notes (bandpassed through the 40-60 hz range) and the 15's are hitting lower bass notes (bandpassed through the 20-40 range) then it could sound alright as long as your box construction was up to snuff.

If you want the best balance between ear-splitting loudness and sound-quality, get a couple of 12" (or even 15") subwoofers that are identical and put 300-700 watts on each of them... that is, provided your box is designed to take full advantage of your woofers, for whatever application you have in mind for them.

My friend's got 2 12's on a 1600W amp along with 2 8's on a 300 and that thing hits like a nine pound hammer and is loud as hell. He always recommends mixing 12's and 8's togther and 10's and 15's together.

He also obviously has no clue about cancellation and sound quality... unless he has done like what I stated above by bandpassing each set of woofers to only reproduce the notes they will be best suited for.

Mixing woofers will be loud, to a certain degree, but there will be tons of cancellation and a severe lack of sound quality; however, most people putting "systems" in their vehicles don't care about sound quality.

most mid spl/sq guys who run 12's will run a pair of 8's for mid bass and have them eq'd down to like 100 hz and sometimes even 60

The boxes are built to spec for the drivers.

The boxes are built to spec for the drivers.

Does that mean for each individual driver, or for the entire set-up on the whole? The manufacturers spec driver boxes for individual or dual-use, not mixing sizes.

Unless he used WinISD and modeled the whole thing up and did a nice job of it, I would venture to say that it doesn't sound much better than LOUD.

Unless he used WinISD

How'd ya guess?

The drivers are paired in their own boxes. The 8's are in their own 4th order bandpass while the 12's are sealed (we're still looking for specs on the 12's, no luck yet but they sound damn good in the box they're in).

The box he made was completely to spec, down to the length of the ports. He's been in car audio for quite some time so I don't think he'd botch up a job on his own ride.
