anyone know of any amps that won't die at 8 ohms resistance? I know most car amps only go up to 4 before they'll start to crap out.

the higher resistance won't kill them... it's lower resistance that can be bad... you will get lower power, but it won't kill the amp...

why do you need an 8 ohm amp anyway? what are you trying to run?

well i'm lookin for some used home theater speakers, and people don't always have their stereos setup due to moving or having already sold it, so i wanna just jack the speakers into my car system to test them out.

should be perfectly fine...

even though the home speakers are "rated" at 8 ohms, they usually measure different than that... don't worry about it, man

take the ohm meter and test the speakers before you install it. if you have two 8ohm speakers, you can make them one 4ohm speaker.

It shouldn't matter like Vanilla said, higher Ohms are ok, it's when you start hooking up 2 ohm or ohm loads to amps that are rated at 4 ohm stable that you run into problems. Just remember the lower the resistance the harder your pushing the amp.

yeah i knew about the lower ohm problem and just assumed there would be a problem with higher ohms too, but i guess i was wrong. Thanks a lot.
