wut is the engine code for the 1.8 liter with dual carbs, found in the 2nd gen. preludes. and i believe 2 gen. accords, not sure tho.

is it A18 ??

It's an ET. I swapped one of them in to one of my accords.

Why? did u get it bored to the 2.0L? ...then use the kehin carbs from the Lude B20a4 which are the same fitting but bigger...i think!

It was very cheap haha :D It's just an accord I'm fixing up and then selling it afterwards (not too much of a fan of carbs anyways). Just need to get the front skirt fixed and then I'll let it go.

And by the way, people saying that the prelude engines is a direct fit are wrong.. You have to replace some stuff on the engine with A20 parts to make it work + modify the A20 wiring harness a little bit to make it work with the ET engine.

when we say it's a direct fit, this means the transmission and engine will bolt to the frame. It's true that some accessories need to be modified but it's not that much compared to let's say a B16A swap.

No it's not that big of a deal at all, just saying.
You have to use the lude engine mounts, but the engine will be sitting tight, especially the dog bone mount compared to A20. But there are two different types of ET tranny's because the mount on the tranny for the dog bone bracket is a little different even though same tranny code ("GM" i think).

after i swap tranny's and flywheels, im gonna have my lude hauled outta here for FREE! and i might take off the intake manifold and carbs, cause i believe i heard it could fit on the A20 also.

OH, is the flywheel for the prelude heavier or lighter than the flywheel on the A20 ?

it's lighter, cuz i'ts smaller. although at the same time the clutch is smaller, therefore less surface area for it to grip.

Yes it will, the left axle just needs to be replaced with an auto axle. However there's two different ET trannys, and the other one fits with the stock accord axles. So it depends on which ET tranny you end up with. They are labelled same tranny code so it's hard to tell the difference by looking at them. Tranny code is "GM".

well, the half shafts on my accord are brand new, havn't been used yet, so if i can help it, im gonna try to keep those.

the bad part is, the prelude is an '84 or '85 2.0Si, but it has dual carbs, so its confusing.

Maybe its a diference with the european modles. I have an 85 ET tranny in my car (or what used to be one anyway) and the 3rd gen accord axles do not fit it. I had an 88 LX tranny as well which I scavenged some parts from for my hybrid tranny. I've had both diffs out, sitting next to each other. The ET tranny's axles are several mm smaller in diamater then the accord's. The earlier ET cases are shorter then the later ones. Honda beefed up the bearings on the main shaft for 86 making the case slightly longer which is problaby why you need that longer axle on some. They also put a smaller final drive in the laters ones making the earlier ET more desirable.


The 2.0Si came out in 86, some one might have just stuck a badge on it. Also 84 modles had the ES1 engine in them, a dual carbed 1.8L as well but had cvcc. 84s also have drum brakes in the back.

si was in late 85. there are 85 Si's, but very few.
the 83 is the cvcc and drum rears, just one year of that. 84 and 85 are the same. 86 started the 3rd brake light. which is why if i ever do another one i'll be on the search for an 84-85. i hate the 3rd light :)
