I'm in Auto Tech right now and we're having a problem with this Accord here. When you turn the A/C on the idle drops at time to 200 rpm's and it smokes whit smoke out of the exhaust. What the hell is the deal?

Thanks.

First can you give us some more info on the car. What year is it, carb, FI????

sounds like AC Idle control/solenoid isnt working. Carb has an adjustment on the carb itself I believe and FI has a solenoid on the fender on the drivers side

It's an '89 LX-i coupe 5-speed. It looks like it has the beginning of a head gasket problem. It also looks like I'm gonna be scooping this car up for 1000-1200 dollars.

So you think it's the solenoid? I'll have to check that out.

yea if it drop's to 200 rpm's.
it's gotta be, check your oil/antifreeze.
plus i'm assuming since, it drop's to 200 rpm's that solenoid that open's up on one side, then open's the other side to raise the idle, that vacuum line probably came off, and causing . . . . . . .
well since you turn on the a/c ecu get the signal, richen's the fuel mixture thinking that the idle has bee raised.

does it only smoke when you turn on the a/c????
