rear deck

My rear deck is pretty thrashed and missing some big pieces (the one that lifts up with the hatch door) I was wondering if anyone has made a replacement rear deck, I want to know what thickness of wood to make it out of, I was thinking 1/4inch. I want to mount some speakers in it (6x9's) so maybe ill go with something thicker. Im going to put hinges on it and cover it in blue carpet, so it matches all nice. And should I make the last section lift up with the hatch lid? I dont have the brackets, but a trip to the junkyard would solve that.

I don't think any aftermarket lids were made, I would go with stock or you could make your own, I just took mine out sice half the brackets where missing when I bought the car. If you put speakers on it facing up, you might want to put a grill over it so they don't fade and wear out from all the direct sunlight.
