I have an '86 Lx with auto tranny, and I just put in an '88 engine with the '86 tranny. The problem is that the engine is too tight,I'm talking about the engine mounts('86 lx not original mount) and the tranny. It was a headache for my cousin to put the pieces all together. It took all day to put the tranny on the '88 engine and put it down on the engine mounts. Why the engine is so tight and do I need new engine mounts??The '88 engine is from Japan(not Zc),at least that is what the people in the shop told me.I do not know if there is a difference in Lx-Dx engines(US) or (JDM) Lx-Dx engines.I read that the auto tranny is the same from '86 to '88.The size still the same??Are the '86-'87 engine mounts different to the '88-'89s????By the way,I dont know if the '88 engine is Lx or Dx.

i had trouble too with the mount's.

i had a 86 lx auto and took 2 88' mount's and they was hard as hell to put on.
now i had gotten a 87 mount and it was easy.

but the tranny the same.
