Hi guys, I am excited about my hatch like you can see. Yesterday I was testing my hatch to see if I need to get a tune up done but it looks like everything is working fine so far. I do not know when it got the last tune up from previous owner. I have not tried to get it to max speed yet but I drive highways every day and this car speeds good. Yesterday I put 90mph for a few seconds and the car was taking it pretty good. My car is stock but I noticed that the speedometer shows up to 130MPH. So How fast you can go in a stock 88 lxi? Its dangerous to reach 120mph or 110mph? It can damage somthing on the car? any experience? Thanks.

No damage from what i know of. I've gotten my 86 LX up to 110 easily. but that darn speed limiter kicks in and won't let me go faster. But from what i've seen the throw on the crank is good enough to rev pretty high. But before I'd start hitting 6k-7k rmp for long periods of time , I'd make sure the block can handle it. If you get rid of the limiter, have some better tires(195/60/14-205/60/13) and better than stock in/out you should be able to get up to 120+.

I got up to 125 in my 86 DX sedan. Really everything depends on the mechanical condition of your car.

Yeah I pushed mine when I was on the freeway at 3 am and couldn't get past 110. it would want to go...but would back itself off..so yeah speed limiter. I think the speed range on the LX-i was higher cause it came with larger tire package. and the stock tire size on the Lx was 185-70-13 speed rating of 70 mph max.
