'89 Accord LXi - wth a 100% stock engine and 190K miles.

Where should I start in improving the horsepower? Plugs, wires, ignition, intake, exhaust (sounds spendy $$) or something else. Looking to start small as far as cost, then work up from there.

well, the cheapest things might be a civic short ram intake, new coil, and plugs.

coil, plugs, wires, CAI, exhaust, port your TB, port your intake manifold, camshaft regrind, and exhaust... that should net you at least 50hp... that would make your car very comperable to pretty much anything else on the road (well, that's stock or mildly modded)...

don't forget to dump unwanted weight, lighten flywheel, take out the a/c system, get some Conda civic HX 14" rims(sooooo light weight), stripe the trunk. loose the spare, mats, and you'll get some extra power.
As for the engine part of it, port and polish the heads, over size the valves by 1 mm, new cam shaft, MSD ign. system, new fuel rail/pump/ pressure regulator,(if F/I)....

our cars like to breathe, so the more you help it out in that end, the more power gains you'll see. Get yourself a $30 ebay 90-97 intake and that should get you started in the right direction.

NX,
I checked for intakes on Ebay, buy only found 90-93 applications. Will these work? Prices were $30.00+ $20 for S&H. If you have time, could you provide a link for some intakes that may work for a 89 LXi?

at least add a link to the saech function... it's not that nice when you respond and just tell someone to search.

I know you did welcome him... I just threw in the announcement just in case you didn't see it. It has a fairly general reply you can use if you feel the need to respond to a question and don't have the answer.

The biggest HP gain I have ever gained on the old A20 was my type R shift knob and smoked tails. :rice:

If you want real power get a B series (*runs and hides*)

Thanks A20A1.
I was more in need of having the application question (90-93 vs. 90-97) answered with a possible courtesy link added. Links can easily be fwd'd to my son's email account, whereas smart-oops replies will do him no good.
