Below is a pic of my airbox on my 1983 2nd Gen Accord, EL1600 Engine.

You can see that i have highlighted a 'plate' of metal. What happens if i remove that plate? I was thinking that it may reduce turbulance or something like that. Im not game enough to do it incase it f*cks itself.

Yes you can remove it, my guess is that it helps distribute the air evenly, which makes better use o the filter... so you don't end up with one dirty spot on the filer right where the opening is.... why does the screen have a hole in it?

If you really want to open it up cut the air box just along the outside edge where the filter rests... that will let the carb breath better on the top end.

screen?

Can u mark out where u reckon i should cut, not 100% sure.

I dont wanna take it off and something bad go wrong, ill just idle her without the plate there, give her a few revs and see what hapens.

right in the center of the air box is a metal screen, it looks like it has a hole punched thru it larger then what is supposed to be there.

It looks kinda like the plate is screwed on. What's that little phillips screw on the right side of the plate doing?

If I had to guess I would say that Honda put that in there for it to decrese intake noise, or something like that, I got a 87 carb and took that crap out, I belive it also decreses the flow of air
