These AEM big brake kits are nice, the one peice rotors cost about $200 for the rear, $230 for the front, and 60 for the pads. But you have to swap to 88-89 front hubs and master cylinder, and they require a little bit of modding to get the calipers to fit but well worth the extra work.
Search online for prices, but Nopi and tirerack have a good selection.

is the price worth the upgrade? I'm interesting in the big brakes.

Just ask people that have been with me when I locked up the brakes at 70mph. :D
Ok lets get down to the physics of this, if the oh shit factor didn't work for ya
86-87 stops at 190 ft from 60-0mph (avg weight 2550), the 88-89 is a bit better due to an 1" bigger rotors, and rear rotors for the Se-i. Stock is 8.5" and the AEM fronts are 12" a 25% increase in torque which should translate into the stopping distance. So 190' 25% of that is 142', and AEM says there will be about a 30% increase in braking or 133'. Add the larger rear rotors on top of that you looking at competing with the new top sport compacts that are stoping at 120'. Without ABS you go to caculated driver skill and the tires being used results will differ. But with just the front kit you can look at around 140' and with the rears you will be in the 120's. Also the added benefit of the rears is a very nice option. Everytime you hit the brakes hard the car will nose dive no madder how stiff of spring ya got. Well the better rear brakes help prevet that by causing the rear of the car to squat and keep the car level. ;)
I should have done some tests to see actually results, maybe I could do it this weekend when it's not raining to get some real life figures. So I paid $500 to stop aprox 65' sooner, I say it was well worth it and has gotten me out of some close calls.

whoaaaa, take a deep breath...... wooooosh

Thanks for the insight justin!!!

I have rear disc brakes already..and I already notice the difference versus drums when under extreme circumstances. I was just wondering since the calipers wouldn't clamp harder.

I remember when Alex and I were riding in Justins car he slammed on the brakes on the off ramp of the freeway we all just looked at each other like that was awesome. I made a huge difference in stopping. I have witnessed it multiple times.

well so far I have been really happy with the stock 89 SE-i calipers. I could go to 2 or 4 piston calipers but the price is too steep for me right now, and I'm more then happy with what I got now.

I dunno, i'm not sure about our cars, but from almost everyone I have talked to, you are almost better off to go with good pads all around, slotted rotors, and ss brake lines and better brake fluid.

After doing this you should notice a huge difference.

well...i was just curious on the idea of big brake kit. I already have SS lines and i'm going to invest in better pads and PERHAPS slotted rotors. I was just curious on the amount of braking difference vs stock sei.

I thaught the point of bigger brakes were to stop them from fading on trackdays? By the way, my bone stock and ancient rotors and pads will lock all my four tires at 70 MPH without a problem. Can't you guys?

Those prices are on the AEM Black rotor setups not the regular ones. For some reason the black ones are a lot cheaper than the others.

with just the big brake kits you can use a 16" wheel and with the 4 piston calipers they require a 17" wheel.
Yea those prices are on the black one-peice kits which are half as the two-peice kit which is also cross drilled (more for looks)
