i have a muffler that i am going to put on my ride. i am going to replace the tubing from front to back. i need to know what size i should go with and how much you think it would cost me?

general concensus here says that 2.25 inch, mandrel bent pipe is the best for NA...

personally, i will use 2.5 inch mandrel bent pipe, but i'm also looking to move my power band up some...

with larger piping, you lose back pressure, which on an naturally aspirated engine helps out in the lower end of the power band, adding TQ lower down, but potentially reducing upper end HP...

hope that helps out...

i've got 2.25 pipe on mine. if they made a less restrictive intake manifold then it would be more worth it. also i'm planning on putting a header and replacing the cat with a higher flow one. 2.25 is good for 4 cylinders with free flowing mufflers. any bigger and you see horrible low end power.

2.25

unless you are planning something serious.

i remember i found a small low profile flowmaster on an '89 3gee sedan at the junkyard. but they wanted something like $40 for it and it wasnt all nice or anything. didnt get it. i have 2 glass packs in line on mine. sort of quiet, but nice deep sound.

so should i go with 2 1/4 or 2 1/2? i got CAI-P&P intake-P&P+bigvalve head-colt cam-adj cam gear-header. i just got done installing everything and im about to get the exhaust done.

if you do P&P, go for 2.5... P&P is a breathing mod, so along with a header, 2.5 will help open up that much more power...

2.25... if you notice all the big companies that sell cat-backs for civics and tegs use between 2 and 2.25" piping (not 4" riceboiii!) :b

and ones that have 2.5" are usally stated as race exhaust, more top end power

i think someone at the yard that work there put it over the fence to pick it up later. i was leaving and found it on the ground like what the fuck? so i pick it up and drive away. it was a good week.

get a 2.25" press bend. If the mandrel bend around ur house is about 50 bux more, then go ahead and do that. Usually they are twice as much as the regular press bend. The good press bend looks almost like a mandrel bent piping. also, dont go to mineke or midas. u will regret that u did.

i'd say even with the head work and other things, 2.25in is best if you want to have a somewhat decent power band. i'm pretty sure if you go 2.50, most power will be in the higher rpms and lower ones are going to be crap under 3300rpm.

2.25 is good if you have stock everything, even with CAI, it doesn't do much. depending on where you live, but here in the bay area cheap is 250 for the whole thing and 300 is just asking for too much.
