Speedometer needle seems to be floating at cruising speed, its like it can't zero in on the correct speed it doesn't seem to be constant only around 65-85 which these are my cruising speeds. :dunno:

I'm not getting any codes. :sadwave:

Any ideas, I'm hoping that its only the speedometer cable needs to be replaced.

Mine does the same thing. I'd guess the cable or the sending unit at the tranny more than the cable but either would cause it Phil.

I appreciate the input. If I zero it down to specifics I'll let everyone know.

Mine pops outta the housing down by the tranny every once in a while. Might check there next. I also pull the end and pour some oil down it to lube it up some.

mine is pretty stable at around those speeds. ive taken it up to a 105mph, and it seems to be doing good.

mine only goes nuts when im like not steping on the gas, at around speeds of 5-20mph. like the needle keeps going up and down, like its floating or something :S any ideas? tho i really dont mind.

I once had a conquest that would do the same thing. When I got to checking, I found that the speedo cable where it connected into the tranny would pull out real easy. It was like the plastic cable had been put into the end metal connector and it would just kind of pop out. Also, I know that the core of the speedo cable was inside a plastic sheathe and also, there was grease packed in there. If the inside is dry, that could cause the symptom you are talking about. Just my ideas of some things you can check.
