whats up guys, just got me an 89 accord lx-i for $200 :D for winter use, this will be the second 3rd gen accord i will have owned. i lost my first 89 lx-i about 2 years ago after a light pole started chasing my (ex-)friend (whom i was teaching how to drive stick) and couldnt avoid the pole after it jumped dead in our path :(... but now i'm back with an 89 agian but with a sunroof this time :)... now to get that clutch replaced....(anybody know how much that will run $$$ me????)
thanx

Hey... welcome to the board. A clutch job isnt too hard in these cars and you can diy it if youre an ok mechanic (ive dropped my tranny at home bout 5x, takes most of the afternoon) most people will charge $300-$500 around here to put a clutch in it. You can get an oem type (just about the same as honda uses) for about $100 on ebay, the Exedy/Daikin clutches are pretty good

:welcome: Have a great stay! I was quoted through a shop where I live $700 for a clutch job :ugh: . I had a guy do it on the side for me for $150!!
Anyway it really depends on if you can find someone that needs some cash and is willing to work with you.
Enjoy :alc:

Get your self a couple quarts of Honda OEM tranny fluid from your local dealership. You may need to top off the fluid when the clutch is done. The OEM stuff is the only type you should use.
Good luck, are you doing it yourself?

i was going to do it myself... but i barely have enough tools, so im just going to have to take it to a shop :(... i'll be replacing and bleeding the brakes myself though cuz god knows it needs it!

i had a question... how bad is (the clutch) it if you have the clutch fully pressed down (while in 1st gear) and firmly down on the brake (yes i know the brakes are bad!) and the car still slowly creeps forward as you crank the engine over? is it the clutch for sure that is bad? or could it be something worse? thanx

could just be the clutch cable is out of adjustment or very badly stretched.
is it making any noises? does it slip?

gsus

i believe it slips, i havent had a chance to change the breaks yet to test out the car
the guy who sold it to me just said that it needed a clutch and rear brakes... which i hope is all i need

any ways i can test this without actually moving the car?

this (http://3geez.com/showthread.php?t=33482&highlight=clutch+bad) is taken from another thread:

I have always taken a different approach to testing clutches. This method tests the slippage/grip of the disc by first adjusting the linkage for maximum clutch disc excursion as kroy said and dropping the clutch at 2k-2.5k rpm while simulataneously holding the brake down hard enough, as to cause the vehicle to not move while the clutch is dropped. You are looking for 2 things in this test. Those are the position at which the clutch engages, and the time it takes to stall the engine. Now since, this is all relative information so one must have had experience with the car tested. As a mechanic, having changes many clutches on Hondas, I have a comparison base to utilize for this test. The faster the engine stalls, i.e. the time elapsed between clutch/flywheel engagement and engine stall, the better. Hesistation in stalling would indicate a worn clutch that will probably need replacement soon (assuming the adjustment is at its max and/or the self-adjuster, which is not found on the older hondas is working properly). This test is obviously for trannies one is not too sure about. If you drop the clutch and nothing happens, you might have a problem, in that case happy revving.

dunno if it helps. fix those brakes man!

welcome 2 da board!!! but how did da pole chase ur friend!! just curious????

well i was teaching my friend how to drive stick, and my friend gave the car a bit too much gas while turning and somehow managed to pop the clutch and next thing i knew we were heading right into the pole... i would have pulled the E-brake but it was not working properly at the time :(

is there a way to adjust the grab point of the clutch, and a way to make the pedal not so stiff?

oh yeah i live and breath by that rule now... no one drives my car now unless they have the funds to cover my car... but even then i'm iffy about letting anybody drive my cars.... especially my MR2 :)

well it least she centered it pretty good, haha. it almost looked like it was on purpose. glad everyone walked out of it and yeah that shit does hurt. i hit a big ass concret covert and ripped the entire drivers side wheel assbly of and bent the entire front end on an old 87 or 88 (dont realy remember) mazda 626 and had a seat belt bruse for like 2 weeks. fun stuff.
