4G alternator into 3G?

My alternator has gone bad and I was wanting to replace it, but I was wondering if the 4th generation alternator fits our cars. Mine being a 1988 LX-i.

sorry, man. i guess i didn't use the right term. but anyway, another question. is it possible to get the alternator out throught the top on the a20a3?

Yes, remove the air filter housing and there should be plenty of room to work.
