best cam

just wondering how many of you have re-ground cams out there and which one worked the best with the A20A1 EF-I, im looking at the colt cams tri-flow wild grind, any other ones i should check out before making my decision?

first off, the A20A1 is carburated, the A20A3 is EFI. I have a Delta Cam 260 grind cam. Its a mild grind, but they also have the 272 grind which is a little more wild. I'm very happy with it for now because my car is a daily driven automatic, later when I rebuild I'll go a little more crazy.

ACE, with the mild grind, where in the RPM range do you feel the most gain?

it's not a complete list but it's more then enough to make a selection between the lot. And don't feel like you are limited to the grinds listed.

I feel it right off the line. The guys at Delta said it would about a 10% increase of power through out the band(idle to redline), and I do feel it, but more so from 3500 rpm and up. It was pretty cheap too, about $50 for the cam, and I also sent in my rocker assembly so they could resurface the rockers. So for the cam grind and the rebuild of the assembly, it cost about $100 plus about $25 shipping to and from. I think it was worth it. :thumbup:

I've got Openloop's cam. Great piece. Don't know if they make them anymore though :( It's a damn good cam, the added power is quite noticable.

I don't believe Openloop makes them anymore. You could talk to them and see what's up. Personally I want to get another one from a part out or something just to have a spare in case the worst happens.

i had 272 delta it was good for the power. i didn't even realized how much it gave me untill i took it off. the power was notticeble from 3500 all the way. idle was a little chabby but nothing major.
if i would go with delta cams again i would get the next one up. suppsed to be for race only.

are there any cams where the powerband is a little lower? like starting below 3000 rpm?

you could probably do that but then you'd suffer in the upper rpms. you don't want to burn out really hard and then have the motor choke when it gets to 6,500 + rpm.

A mid range cam is the most useful. The low range would seem more like making your car a towing vehicle or something.

well... i don't really plan on running much past the redline... and that's 6200? so if it starts losing power at 6500 i'm still ok right?

I have to agree with mike. if you are going to get a cam that design to make power at lower RPM, i am sure the engine will choke around 5K and up.
