I've got an 89 carb, and I get around 29-30mpg on my 99% highway driving commute. It seems that the car used to get closer to 40.

I've done fuel filters and pump, carb cleaner, plugs and wires

what else could be causing bad gas mileage?

that's like 400-420 per tank, wish it was true for me. i'm lucky if i get 350 per tank.

Does it seem to be running any different lately? Many things can effect gas mileage, even low tire pressure.

I have had some carb problems lately (icing, which I fixed)

Also misadjusted my throttle last week (almost have it set right again) but gas mileage has been around 30 for at least 15,000 miles (I drive alot).

Maybe it's running rich? Is there any way to tell without the propane procedure?

It's fairly likely it has a vac leak at the heat riser diaphragm. would a vac leak there cause this?

carbs always have low gas mileage, it is nothing you can fix. my first accord was LX and i never got more than 380 on 12.5 gallons.
I have EFi right now, and i get 450 miles on the same amount of fuel.

man i get about 30.5 mpg after reinflating my tires and driving pretty much only highway miles... thats about right man... 30mpg is nothing to be ashamed of. this car sometimes gets 25mpg heheh

Were you the one who posted about heat riser diaphragm leaking?

If it's a slight leak then it can affect the powervalve causing it to open slightly perhaps... also it could cause you to set your idle speed wrong since you're trying to overcome the drop in vacuum by adjusting the throttle opening possibly increasing the amount of fuel you pull thru at idle.

in case anyone cares, after my CV replacement I just got 35.4 (all highway) which is a big jump from 29-30! Still tracking down my vac probs thoguh. I'm sure you're right, I just haven't had time to get to a junkyard.

lol. Dude, I'm getting like 18 mpg on all city driving right now. Total, about 240 miles on a tank. That's really bad I think. But then again, with it still being cold out, and me doing the short driving I do, I figure it itsn't too bad. I want to take the accord to california or something one year and see how she does in milege then.
