My Accord have just 280000 km (175000 miles) drove. All the time I was useing 10W/40 SemiSynthetic Oli, but now because of mileage I started to think about changing oli type to 15/W40 mineral. What do You think about this ?? Which kind of oli do You have ??

My engine: A20A2, carb, 12V

10-40 Castrol GTX High Mileage, seems to work great at 150,000 miles.

Basically the viscosity & operating temperatures.

I'm not familar with mineral oil, but I run Castrol 10w-30 at the moment.

Same here, only I have 233,000 miles! Wasn't there a tech. page discussing oil viscosity on here somewhere, or am I thinking of some other forum?

castrol gtx high milage as well. The car has a 173,000 but im guessing the motor has about the same and it still runs. Like they say keep oil in a honda and it will go anywere

Apparently a honda will take you 17 minutes with just water( see post, Honda's don't die easy)

Well because I tend to drive hard and it's always hot over here I use

OIL
20w-50 Mobil 1 Super Syn
or
20w-50 Valvoline VR-1 Racing

ATF
Mobil 1 & B&M Trick Shift Mixed

Anyways 15w-30 or 15w-40 sounds good as long as you're not in the dead of winter.

5w and 10w are more for cold weather

I run... I beleive it's called
Valvoline High Milage 15w-40, in my corolla

I'm using the high mileage stuff 10W-30, but I'll probably switch to 15W-30 or 10W-40 at my next oil change (when it warms up)
The problem with the thicker oils is increased wear at startup, so its best if you use it when its hot or when you have a block heater.
The good thing about the thicker oil is that you get less blow-by on worn engines (valves & rings)
As far as synthetic goes, I find it a waste of my money. These engines have excellent wear characteristics on regular oil as long as it is clean and changed regularly. They don't need pampering..... they need regular exercise

10W/30 synthetic. Synthetic since the first oil change in 1989 at 1,500 miles. Change it every 10,000 miles and the upper and lower end are still spotless at 228,000 miles.

and THAT'S why i will only use synthetic

i've taken apart a couple of babied a20a's that were always lubed with dino oil, and there was considerable wear, and plenty of sludge... my mom's 626 has 77,000 on it, and it's had synthetic since its second oil change, and it (what can be seen) is truly spotless...

mobil 10w40 motor oil/ tranny oil.
if you look at oil can from a dealer, it says Mobil 1 on it. so i switched to mobil 1. my engine is cleaner than when i was using castrol, and it runs a lot better too.

PS. i wouldn't use synthetic oils in old engines. the oil tends to brake the seals and make the car smoke.

My 87 Accord LXi has 259000 miles on it.... always use 10w30 year round here in Chicago and use any major brand regualr motor oil thats on sale.

i use Mobil 1 high mileage synthetic blend 10w-30. castrol high mileag would be my second choice. i'm at about 235k miles. and this reminds me that i need to do an oil change here soon.. when i build my engine for my 2dr, i'm gonna run that synthetic. and as for the different numbers.., the higher the number, the thicker the oil and better wear protection(to an extent), but the cooler the oil, the longer it takes to circulate throughout the engine, hence the lower numbers for cold weather(ie 5 and 10). to see more how the numbers with oil work, you can look it up at www.howstuffworks.com also, i saw a link one time for an awesome forum that's solely dedicated to oil, filters, and the like. can't remember off hand though.., but i'm pretty sure i found it through here.

the numbers are a range. You can always mix it. 1 quart of 5-30 thrown in with 10-40 helps protect at cold temps without giving up high heat driving protection

mobile 10w-30 Synthetic blend. for motor and tranny. Great oil, never breaks down and quality is superior than valvoline or castrol or penzoil.
