Anybody know if the upper part of the wiper arm is aluminum or stainless steel? It appears that the lower part is cast resin. The black paint is peeling off in sections so I thought I would take them into work to bead blast them down to the metal only.

I am pretty sure they are aluminum b/c once the paint comes off they get a corroded white look that pretty much only aluminum gets. I don't think the lower part is cast resin, I am pretty sure it is also aluminum. I painted mine black 3 years ago and there is only one scratch on them even with all of the window scraping I do in the winter.

I bead blasted the wiper arms. You might be right about it being aluminum. I'll leave it for a week to see if I like it. If I don't I'll hit with self etching primer, a light coat of semi-flat black, and then two heavy coats.

I think there is a how-to about painting the trim that peeling. It would probley work on the windshield wipers.
