yeah now i need to work on some custom fiberglass LED taillights and maybe even some projector headlights. but i kinda like the flipups - ever since i put new motors in them. it kinda gives it that exotic feel. i need to tint the glass dark to give it that wraparound window look since i painted the b-pillars black. next up is a new b20a engine. my rebuilt a20a doesn't make as much power as the car looks. after that, i'll work on the custom fiberglassed interior once i buy all the stereo equipment that i want. anyways, anyone know where i can find a JDM b20a 5spd in pretty good condition?

with modification yes. though the 4g is very different than the 3g appears 2 be. technically, any bodykit can be put on any car but it depends on the model, amount of time you want to spend, and how much bondo it take to make it fit

Nopi is up in Georgia so its not real far from you considering i would be coming from CT :) . The engine is coming along im putting the turbo back on this weekend and my tuner will be up the following sunday so you might hear my thoughts soon. Im pumped up about it but after the last tuning session im still worried about issues so i will have to find out the hard way.

As for b20a's to be honest i dont know of any and i want to pick up another complete swap myself. I could make another one with all my parts but my spare tranny has a problem so im a little worried at this point since the turbo wont be gentle on mine and they are hard to come by. I will keep you posted though as im hoping to work something out with a guy i know but not until summer at the earliest.

Nice work though!

het rob. im yet to open my tranny but Ive been thinking about taking the gears out and having cnc'd gears put in maybe with a twist to handle more torque. Im sure itll be costly since cnc isnt cheap but it'd lighten the static load and help with revs. Lower torque from start though. Id do it know since the tranny on the ground and still in good enough shape to take parts to compare to. Just a thought.

I figure from there the only issue would be blocker rings and bushings to swap out when thge time comes and if you dont mash gears those last quite a while no matter how much power you make.

Are the gears twisted aready or are they striaght cut?

now if only i find that jdm b20a or will someone please make a b-series swap kit for us. my goal is to attend shows and get the attention of big name companies so maybe they'd make some cool aftermarket stuff for 3gees. they're the ones with the money to do all the research and development to make these products. we all know a one man gig is tough and difficult in terms of time, skills, stress, and money.

SteveDX89
03-04-2005, 08:22 AM
Wow, the high res shots are great. I'm gonna take a stab at the differences.

1. Shaved rear door handles
2. Flared/wide body over rear wheels
3. Flared/wide body over front wheels
4. No little vents in front of front door
5. Rear bumper comes up to right below the taillights
6. Side skirts in front of the front door is different
7. Added to the front bumper where the grill was so it's even with the eyebrows on the headlight covers

About all I can spot now. Car looks hot in either form. Great work.

yep im going to shave the front door handles also. that's another minor thing i need to tackle before it's painted. i kept the door handles on there for now cus i'm waiting to get autoloc's shaved door kit but it's like $300 with only 2 solenoids. so i'm waiting to finish/spend other things with my money first before i invest in that cus i don't know if i would trust the ebay knockoffs. i'd rather be safe than sorry. plus the solenoids in the autoloc kit are stronger at 50lbs or 70lbs pulling force. i might go for the 50lbs kit. the 70lbs might be too much.

would be nice to make this car RWD. the engine i could think of would be the best candidate in terms of power to weight ratio would be rotary engine. maybe off a 3rd gen mazda rx7. it's small and compact enough to fit in the engine bay with room to spare and shouldn't weigh down on the front suspension. it would be alot of work, but man....

RWD!!!???? I had been thinking the same thing for a while now. Especially for the hatchies on the board cuz they are so close resemblance to the AE86. That would be so exciting to see a 3g drifting.

yeah, use a honda CRV rear end. have a long solid mounted driveshaft run down the tunnel under the car with the pivot point near the rear differential. kinda like this \____/ . reroute the exhaust pipe. have a custom mazda/honda hybrid driveshaft made. the rotaries are small, especially the 1st gen rx7's. im sure it can fit under the car without major cutting, maybe some. unlike putting in a small block v8. maybe even the inline 4 from the A86 would fit. i dunno, just a crazy idea i've had.

i dunno, i think dealing with just one big driveshaft would be less of a headache than dealing with 2 cv axles. that's the hard thing about FWD. but i agree with you, if i had the chance i would go CRVtec w/ FWD first then tackle the 4WD later.

If you use a CRV rear differential for rear or 4 wheel drive, there are 2 axles in the back too. The CRV has independent rear suspension, therefore 2 axles. So if you do RWD, you have 2 axles to deal with anyway. If you do 4WD, you have 4. I dunno how time you've spent under your car but unless you use a fuel cell in the trunk, you aren't fitting a rear differential in there.

ICEMAN707
03-05-2005, 05:28 PM
the rear axles aren't a problem because there's no engine there. the front has the engine so you might have to hack the axles or figure out other honda axles that would fit the 3gee hub lengthwise. and yes, it's obvious you can't just bolt on a CRV differential back there, it's a totally different car. you have to take out the gas tank use a fuel cell like you said and hack up the flooring in the back and reweld a housing for the whole CRV rear axle assembly. i was thinking of this toyota paseo i saw that got converted to RWD with a toyota mini truck engine and rear axle assembly.

BTW, anyone ever tried this out? http://unorthodoxracing.com/cgi-bin/merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=URI&Product_Code=060610800

Yeah Placeracing used to make them and now they went bankrupt. IMO they were way too overpriced. Just cus they were the only ones that made them for the 3gee. I'd rather have Hasport billet aluminum mounts anyways. All it takes is for someone in Phoenix AZ to make it to their shop and have them fabricate a prototype on their car. From there, Hasport can make production copies. But they need a car first and a B engine. I'm sure Hasport will make the mounts free for the person who lets them use their car as a guinea pig.

LOL I have no idea. I just work on the car as days go by. But I'm sure a shop would charge around $5000 for a job like this. It's better to work on it yourself. Do it little by little. You won't notice how much you really spent on it. It just takes lots of patience and imagination.

well, it doesn't have to be for production, just for a group buy. i mean we got thousands of members on here that would definitely be interested. and since you'd be going to a machine shop to have mounts custom made anyways, why not by them? since that's what they do best. anyways, i guess we can just pray ray fong comes through with his custom mounts. steve, did you by any chance take out your motor yet like you said you would? if so, would you mind taking measurements and make schematics of those PR mounts?

There are not thousands of members that would be interested. PRI mounts were available for 3-5 years and they probably sold 15 kits.

I didn't pull my motor. There wasn't enough interest in the mounts for me to do all that.

Sweet kit man! thats one of the few that I think flows well with the lines of the car. Most of the kits you see on the more angled cars are those black widow/ rounded swooping ones. I like the sharp angled kits better and wanna eventually get one on mine
