yes i have looked throught he search but havent found what i was looking for...my distributor itself seems to be making a knocking noise and i heard this is what happens when it goes bad. ive also been experiencing a jumpy, sometimes stuck tach. ive heard the coil might have something to do with that too? anyway i just wanted to know if anyone here had any experience on replacing the distributor/coil so i know what to watch out for

Sounds like the distirbuter bearing is going shot. Supposedly, before I bought my accord, the bearing seized and snapped the timing belt, but since the timing belt and distributer were replaced with new Honda brand pieces I kind of believe this story. THe knocking is play in the distributer and this causes the jumpy tach probably (though my tach has always been a little bit tachy). You probably just want to go to the j/y and find an lx-i tach w/o red dust in it b/c the red dust often means that the bearing is going shot. I recommend the j/y just because the distributer for a 3g is often around $250. For the how to on replacing it look in the online Honda Repair manual that you can download free.
The coil can have to do with poor tach readings (since that's where the tach runs off of), but more often the distributer is to blame if the coil isn't aftermarket. I'd bet it is your distributer and not the coil that is going shot.

if you went to the dealership the distributor alone is around $750 or so... get one from a junkyard or ebay.

Mine was $280 with core exchange... :( it died on me so I grabbed one from the junk yard.
